I think it would be good business. We already are to have an engine tie up for it. The avionics of Rafale NG are 5th generation. Stick it in a 5th gen airframe and you have top notch fighters. It would be easy transition for both India and France as we will both make the previous plane.
Strongly agree with this topic. Was wondering why hasn't there been a talk on this or even a general mention of it. Rafale is a 4++ generation fighter that will be used in numbers as well as tech wise while AMCA would be a good complementary next gen jet. Since we have already worked on the wind tunnel test designs, I think for an experienced player like Dassault it would be even more easier to assist ADA to bring it to reality.

Benefits are multi-fold:

- Both nations get a cutting edge jet.
- Both nations are in complete agreement with each other with no disputes.
- The joint AMCA becomes a cutter into JSF's market in the future.
- Europe gets a 5th generation jet that Typhoon consortium may find tough to compete: French tech, Indian cost management and combined creation. :D

What gave it away? His name or his Avatar?

I think the Chinese indeed have less "strategic friends" - but they also are further along in terms of "self reliance" in defense production.

@Armand - remember a little lesson from WW2, Vietnam and Afghanistan - not all wars are won by technology - sheer number and strategy can win a war too .
Ok, tell who is india's strategic "friends".

Russia? Yes, billions dollars purchase each year from india, no body would refuse such kind of "friend".
USA? Yes, with the rising of China, suddently India becomes "friend" of USA.
Who else?

Strategic partners

India's growing economy, strategic location, friendly foreign policy and large and vibrant diaspora has won it more allies than enemies.[60] India has friendly relations with several countries in the developing world. Though India is not a part of any major military alliance, it has close strategic and military relationship with most of the major powers.

Countries considered India's closest include the Russian Federation,[61] Israel,[62] Afghanistan,[63] France,[64] Bhutan[65] and Bangladesh.[66] Russia is the largest supplier of military equipment to India, followed by Israel and France.[67] According to some analysts, Israel is set to overtake Russia as India's largest military and strategic partner.[68] The two countries also collaborate extensively in the sphere of counter-terrorism and space technology.[69] India also enjoys strong military relations with several other countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States,[70] Japan,[71] Singapore, Brazil, South Africa and Italy.[72] In addition, India operates an airbase in Tajikistan[73] and signed a landmark defense accord with Qatar in 2008.[74]India has also forged relationships with developing countries, especially South Africa, Brazil,[75] and Mexico.[76] These countries often represent the interests of the developing countries through economic forums such as the G8+5, IBSA and WTO. India was seen as one of the standard bearers of the developing world and claimed to speak for a collection of more than 30 other developing nations at the Doha Development Round.[77][78] India's "Look East" Policy has helped it develop greater economic and strategic partnership with Southeast Asian countries, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. India also enjoys friendly relations with the Persian Gulf countries and most members of the African Union.
^^ This pretty much explains..

Nobody is talking about war tactics. We are discussing the level of Chinese technology base... 25yrs behind France and 30yrs behind USA.
