Re: Shinzo Abe reveals plans to lift Japan's ban on fighting in confli

Good point.

But, your initial post was referring to America. As far as I'm aware, America has always guaranteed the defence of Japan.
No, America has always guaranteed the defence of the land covered by Japanese sovereignty. On Diaoyu island, America publicly claimed that they take no position about its sovereignty. In other words, they don't think that Diaoyu island is a part of Japan. That make the prospect of their military involvement around this island unclear.

That is why Japanese need a further guarantee to extend their military treaty over this island.

Your claim that this decision was required to maintain defence relations with America is, to me, ridiculous and not based on any public statements. America marines have been leaving Okinawa.
American marines are leaving since they have no play in a tiny island conflict. But American air force is reinforcing in Japan

Japan "begging" (your claim) for American military and political support seems to be the opposite of what's been happening.

Senkaku or Diaoyu? Japan, China Feud over Islands in East China Sea | TIME.com

Quote: ""If Japan loses the islands and the U.S. doesn't come to aid Japan, the credibility of not only the U.S. alliance with Japan but of all U.S. alliances globally would be severely harmed," Sato says."

And now 2014, Japanese finally got it.

It is because you do not understand warfare conduct and the tactics involved wherein you come up with statements like Yes, the funny thing is this "strong" military force can not stand up to Chinese alone.

An island nation is vulnerable on all sides.

Their leaders do not go asking any other nation to protect them. It is just that they are cleverer than the Chinese it appears wherein the exploit the other nations' geostrategic concern to their advantage and in the bargain gets the spinoffs therein.
Oh, really?
Then why Japanese need such a military treaty with US long before the issue of this island, which specially aims to protect Japan from any foreign attack?

Looks like Japanese doesn't agree with you.

You prove the point yourself, where in you state it is US not Japan getting Chinese worried.Only fools can deny the power of US,
The clever people are not worried about the US since they make the US their friends. It is only fools who think they are capable of challenging the US are the ones who are left to worry; and worry they must.
Only fools will believe that there is "true friend" in global politics. Being a "friend" of a superpower is not something of free charge.
The difference is Japanese is willing to pay the price while Chinese doesn't.
Maybe you can persuade your own gov to be US' friend.

Japan will not start war any more. If China attacks them only then Japan will enter in conflict. same goes to Germany as well. Both countries should never fight any more war unless they are attacked.

That is very funny. The proposal made by Abe is suggesting that Japanese can take pre-emptive action when they think necessary.

The proposal is to ensure that Japan has the strike capability if the push comes to a shove.

That is ridiculous! The Japanese already has that capability since 1980s.

Ridiculous because you say so?

It is not only based on platforms, but also on concepts and strategic threat analysis.
