Empty rhetoric - Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have the highest birth rates in India.

Lallu Prasad ji with 10 children being an honourable example.

Please enact a law in your state first whose runaway population growth is populating slums of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata.

    India TFR by state -

    Chandigarh - 1.3
    Goa - 1.3
    Tamil Nadu - 1.7
    Punjab - 1.7
    Kerala - 1.7
    Andhra Pradesh - 1.7
    West Bengal - 1.7
    .
    .
    .
    Uttar Pradesh - 3.3
    Bihar - 3.5

If they are sincere let them implement population control in their states first, otherwise it is empty talk.UP

Actually, @anoop_mig25 I meant to mock, hoping it will prick anyone from those states into action reading the post.

I mock Mulayam, Laloo Prasad and to a lesser extent Maya for the same reason.

Good to see that these politicians start talking about population growth. Some upper class and middle class people are thinking that they can make more money by exploiting cheap work force and high demand. But they are wrong. As poor people are vote banks, Govt. will impose more tax burdan on upper class and middle class to help poor people. If standard of living of poor people increase then upper class and middle class people will face less tax burden.

Forced pregnancy is the root cause of all problems. Many people are breeding again and again just because Govt. is distributing money to pregnant women. Breeding also help them to get more subsidies and freebees. According to me Govt. should provide more subsidies and freebees to poor people. But people who have more than 2 children should get subsidies and freebees only after they do sterilization. This will help to reduce poverty and TFR. People won't do sterilization for money because pregnant women are getting more money. So instead of providing incentives for sterilization Govt. should link subsidies and freebees with sterilization.

The positive thing is in past they were shy even to talk about family planning. I hope they will take some steps in their states.

We need strong laws like imposition of fines on couples conceiving more than two children. But we would also need stronger laws against female foeticide.

Imposition of fine is not possible as most people who have more children are poor people. They will stop breeding if Govt. stop encouraging them to do so. What will poor people do if Govt. distribute Rs.1000 for sterilization and Rs.6000 + nutritious foods for breeding?

Female foeticide will reduce if Govt. take action against cultural cops. Female foeticide will reduce if women are allowed to do what men can do.
