AMMU: Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur witnessed a second terror attack in as many days as two suspected terrorists targeted a police post in the Basantghar area. Two Special Police Officers have been injured in the attack, which started around 9.30 pm.

The police are retaliating and intermittent firing is still on, said a district official. Reinforcements have been sent to the area.

The two terrorists reportedly crossed the Ujh river from Kathua into Basantgarh.

On Wednesday, a Pakistani terrorist was captured in Udhampur after an attack on a bus of the Border Security Force. A terrorist accompanying him and two BSF personnel were killed in the attack.

Earlier today, a terror attack took place in South Kashmir's Pulwama. The terrorists had attacked a police party that had gone to conduct a search operation in the village. Two of the terrorists died in the encounter that followed. The operation is still on.

Two more terrorists are believed to be holed up in a house in Kakapora village, about 32 km from Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar.

Second attack on police post

there was deployment of a total of eight police personnel at Sangh police post but at the time of attack, there were only four police personnel, mostly the SPOs, present inside the police post. Rest four police personnel had come down to Ramnagar on training. The injured SPOs returned the firing by the militants but had obsolete weapons as compared to automatic rifles with the militants.

apart from CRPF and police, the Village Defence Committee (VDC) members were also rushed to the spot but it would take lot of time for them to reach to the site of encounter. SDPO Ramnagar Abhishek Sharma and SHO Basantgarh Inspector Vikram Singh Manhas had left for the spot with ‘nafri’ but were expected to reach Sangh only in early hours of the morning.

“I had asked police not to remove the CRPF but they didn’t listen, leading to the militant attack,’’ local MLA RS Pathania said and charged police with “major security lapse’’. Pathania said the local people had been informing police about movement of the militants in upper reaches but they took it casually.
