KARACHI: Following the passage of a new bill approved by the provincial assembly on Tuesday, Sind province will now officially be referred to as “Sindh”.

The provincial assembly has approved the Sindh Laws Amendment Bill 2012, which calls for the change in spelling – the “H” has now been added to the province’s name.

The bill, presented by opposition lawmaker Arif Mustafa Jatoi, is the first private bill to be unanimously approved in the provincial assembly in the past five years.

According to the bill, the spelling for the province will be ammended with the addition of an “H” in all legal acts and ordinances.

“Sindhu” was probably the original name of Sindh, which was also likely the original name for the River Indus. The Greeks changed the name of the River Sindhu to the River Indos when they conquered Sindh in 125 BC under Alexander the Great – hence, the modern name, the River Indus.

A previous version of this news item erroneously reported the new spelling as “Sind”. The error is regretted.

steady on with your theories - all of you are victim of our fabulous neighbours' level of journalism

they've back-tracked on the change - true to their level of professionalism - IT'S ACTUALLY THE OPPOSITE

ref; Sindh, not Sind – The Express Tribune

key sentence in the article ( and i cut and paste - so it's a verbatim quote ) :- Correction: A reporting error occurred wherein it was stated that Sindh will be written as Sind. The error is regretted.

but to really appreciate their level of journalism read the whole article and see if like me it's really hard to make any sense of it !!

oh well - let's wait for tomorrow - perhaps they'll make another change or correction then ?

What crappy reporting. Alexander died in 323 B.C.E., a full two centuries before the given date. Couldn't they had done at least basic research before making this article?

Sindh & Sindhies are different than pakjabis .. sindhis are liberal, secular and non-marshal in their nature.. which u can witness from the nature of sindhis living in india...
you will not find a SINGLE sindhi suicide bomber, sindhi taliban, sindhi lashkar-e-tayyaba man, or any of extremist outdfit..
all those who are involved in terrorism and extremism are punjabis and pukhtuns.
