It will be a tragic day indeed if Rushdie isn't given a visa to vist India, Although the Congress government has been good at catering to the needs of the minorities in the nation it should never come at the expense of freedom of thought and speech.... I am not a fan of Rushdie's anti Islamic stance but I rather like his secularist stance, people should know he is also very critical of the Church...

Deoband is probably pissed of because Rushdie has disproved the notion that you can get 72 virgin hoories only in jannat, because I am pretty sure he might have had more than that in this world :p

Nothing wrong in Rushdie coming to India.

I am waiting for those who complained about MF Hussein being targeted to speak up now. They are the secularists.

    Watch the space!

Yeah I agree with you... In these cases there is always a group of people that have their political interests in mind and use secularism when it pleases them but its sad to say that real secularists are missing in our society....

Even without banning, the mere threat should make the secularist shout.

The Darool is antediluvian and a slur on modernity and progress!

This is one country and it has to be so.

All religious claptrap and organisations should be kicked into the Indian Ocean.

    A secularist has spoken!

I think he should get the same treatment as M F Husain. There cannot be double standards here from both sides.

Hey bigshot, I think the reply Brig gave is my answer too. Even without banning, the mere threat should make the secularist shout.

And regarding who is the hypocrite, did I not see you pouting and puffing when some Tamil organizations just "demanded" that killers of Rajiv be set free. They just "demanded" son.

So don't jump and remember you did not do sh!t to me in any thread. Don't overestimate yourself. You are just of nuisance value to me.

Rushdie's book is blasphemous as per some Muslims.

I want to know where has he gone wrong.

Why is that not debated in India?

MF Hussein did what he thought it was right.

    It was debated.

There was a court case which he did not want to face and left India.

Let there be Court case against Rushdie!

Fatwas are not legal and in fact, most stupid, illogical and the device of illiterate obscurantists!

And lastly Muslim law does not run India nor does any other religions!

India is NOT Pakistan and run by the ridiculous and outdated Sharia!

He should be allowed to come to India and everyone should allow him to speak what he wants to speak in democracy!!

Many said, Those who opposed Hussain were right-wing Hindu groups and those who opposing Rushdie should be considered as extremist radical Islamist. Hypocrites Secularist and Islamist faces are already hitting media even before he came.

Extremist must be dealt with iron hand to prove that India is ruled by the constitution and not by the holy books.

I could not read it since it was banned and not available.

I have read reviews and that speaks of something about his rather unsavoury parts, which in an open society, would mean, as the Americans say, squat!

But then, it is a big deal and so it must become a Jamboree!

It is like saying that Lord Krishna should be banned!

The Deobandis and some others have their brains fixated below their belt. Frustrated in sex is what one would feel!

    Imagine this:

Although all legal schools of thought consider masturbation to be haram, some scholars have allowed it as a last resort for unmarried individuals attempting to avoid succumbing to the greater sin of zina.
