Salman Khurshid takes a dig at PM, Rahul Gandhi; SP, BJP rejoice

New Delhi: Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid has kicked up a storm after his comment on Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In an interview to national daily 'The Indian Express', he has said that the root of the problems plaguing the Congress was the lack of "ideological direction" from its next generation leader Rahul Gandhi.

Khurshid also said that the governance and politics had not been the strong point of UPA-II, hinting that the Prime Minister was not in charge of the government.

Khurshid told 'The Indian Express', "We need a new ideology to be given by our next generation leader Rahul Gandhi to move forward and to meet contemporary challenges. The fact is that he is undoubtedly and unquestionably the number two leader in the party. Yet he has not taken up the mantle or accepted a functional responsibility. He is so far not willing to accept the number two position."

"In UPA II, governance and politics have all got intermingled. The political props have got mixed up. It's a scattered situation. The stage has to be set up again and only the Congress president can do it. She is the one who has the stature. The Prime Minister can then run the government, but he cannot set the stage," Khurshid added.

When asked about India's economic crisis, Khurshid said, "It's not only economic reforms that have slowed down. Even political and administrative reforms have not happened because of this situation."

Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Siddiqui welcomed Khurshid's remark saying Rahul is not a leader material. "He has spoken the truth. Khurshid has come out openly and I welcome it. The Manmohan Singh government is directionless, because of which the economy is suffering, people are suffering. Rahul Gandhi is not a leader material. He doesn't have any ideology, his fundamentals are not clear. There is no co-ordination in the government and the party," he said.

BJP leader Kalraj Mishra also said that the Congress should take Khurshid's comment seriously. "The Congress should take his comment seriously. He has told what he felt. Manmohan Singh is a weak Prime Minister, he doesn't have control over his Cabinet," Mishra said.

    =============================
The fortress is crumbling under it's own weight. I hope a series of events will lead to the end of "Gandhi dynasty". History is witness, all an empire needs is a bad, incompetent heir to meet it's end.

Backing up Law Minister Salman Khurshid's claims that Congress was not getting any ideological direction from Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Siddiqui said that the Congress General Secretary's fundamentals were not clear.

The sycophancy is sickening. Here is the guy who took charge of the Congress' UP campaign and failed miserably and there were people who were falling over themselves to take the blame. And this was not the first election which this prince lost for the Congress. Why does the Congress think that Indians mistake the Congress for the Gandhis?

Bahut Joote pare honge Salman Ko ( He must have been beaten by shoes)

How dare he question the Yuvraj. Does he not know that leaders in Congress are not supposed to have independent thinking.

What Khurshed has said is true and is known, but is not admitted.

That he would have to scurry back and retract with the usual 'misrepresented' was but expected.

Khurshed wants to remain a Minister and he is well aware that without the goodwill of the Gandhis, he cannot last there a second and therefore has to make amends.

His outburst, if it may be called so, was because the Congress distanced themselves from Khurshed because of his election promises which was not quite in keeping with the Congress flavour of the moment, and which was used as one of the causes for the miserable showing of the Congress in the UP elections. This showed him him (Khurshed) looking a fool with an unzipped mouth. Naturally, it has hurt his ego and his standing in the Congress, especially in UP.

Is it a coincidence that 2 "minority" leaders raised their voice against Congress future "leader" or just a chance?

Anyway... Raul Vinci is a dis-illusioned directionless "leader" which we all know but now his own party people are getting vocal about it.

Now he can track back to save his neck by classic phrase "media misinterpreted me" but... sacchai muh se nikal he jaati hai!

For clear fundamentals, one has to be able to stand on his own 2 feet. He is a poodle.

Rahul failed to appease UPians, Salman Khurshid invited election commission to take actions against himself, SC denied to stay the HC order against the religious reservations in AP. Now at least for once Salman has expressed his "Truths" and frustrations to, appease his community, distance himself from Rahul, condemn him and make him a scapegoat

Priyanka comes with a baggage that not just other Congress leaders but even her own mother is wary about.

Robert Zardari will finish off the party in double quick time.

The Congress, a party with no democratic ethos and beholden to the name and fame of the Nehru Gandhis to steer themselves into govt, has suddenly started to be gnashing at the bit.

Most thought that they are like the Titanic, grand and mighty and reputed to be unsinkable.

However, they have hit the Iceberg in the form of the dithering direction denied UPA II that has only scams, corruption, scorn for public discontent and public misery (rich classified living on more than the pittance indicated by the Planning Commission or as Chidambaram claims cribbing about price rise and living the daydreams of Chidambaram that they take bottled water and ice cream!).

The Grand Ship is sinking, and the passengers who till now were wining and dining in the State ballrooms, have panicked!

Aristocratic disdainful mouth has unzipped and they are blabbering incoherently.

These very lotus eaters are hearing the strains of the Requiem sounding in the distance and remembering God for a change for Salvation!

The Holy Mother of the Congress and her Son watch in horror but equally helpless.

Not a peep heard from them to save the sinking ship.
