Centre exhibiting dual standards in treating prisoners: counsel

Malegaon 2008 blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has been detected with breast cancer, which is in the third stage, Bhagwan Jha, the Sadhvi’s brother-in-law, said at a press conference here on Tuesday. Mr. Jha accused the government of conspiracy and negligence, and blamed it for her illness.

“It is because of the atrocities of the Maharashtra government that she is suffering from cancer. We have been crying hoarse since 2009 that she might be suffering from breast cancer, as she was diagnosed with a cyst. If the government [had] acted responsibly, she would not have suffered,” Mr. Jha said.

Mr. Jha and the lawyers distributed a copy of the medical report of Breach Candy Hospital Trust. “We had sent the sample to the Indian Cancer Society, which concluded that she is suffering from cancer,” Mr. Jha said.

The report, signed by Dr. Sameer Pathan, MD, Breach Candy Hospital Trust and dated July 5, 2012, states that she is suffering from “invasive ductal carcinoma” in the “right breast,” which is “histologic grade III.”

The sample was referred by S.S. Rajput, from the Indian Cancer Society. “He[Dr. Rajput] had specially come to Bhopal to take the sample of Sadhvi ji. We had taken the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s permission for taking the sample and sending it for testing. Accordingly, it was sent from the Swami Vivekanand Regional Spine Centre in Bhopal,” Rameshwar Gite, advocate for the Sadhvi, told The Hindu.

Another counsel of the Sadhvi, Naveen Chomal, criticised the government for dual standards in treating prisoners. “The government is spending crores on Kasab. He is being given VIP treatment. But Sadhvi does not even get treated properly in the hospital. Her bail plea on medical grounds is being denied,” he said.

Sadhvi Pragya has been arrested under MCOCA-Mahrasthra Act which is very similar to POTA which Congress repealed claiming it targets Muslims. Its a shame that Kasab is served Biryani and being provided with the best medical facilities while Sadhvi Pragya is treated like an animal. Sadhvi Pragya has come out clean from all 17 tests of different kinds i.e ploygraph, lie-detector & narco analysis. She was pronounced guilty by Paid Media very day they saw her pic dressed in saffron robe!

If guilty, Punish her. if not then ?? No evidence, No prove and she might die soon. In any case, Medical facility should be give whether she is guilty or innocent.

Even if she is indeed on the wrong side of the law , medical facilities must be extended to her.

Now it seems that she is innocent, trapped in a conspiracy by pseudo seculars. It is the duty of the govt and the court to provide her medical facilities before any further proceedings.

I believe no charge sheet has been filed even after 4 years of her arrest. If there is no proof how how can they detain her idefinitely. Proper medical treatment must be given to her.

Breast cancer is not life threatening.

I am sure she can be treated through a surgical procedure.

Hopefully not in a Govt hospital since sweepers do the surgical procedures there.

Paid media is hurting nation a lot. Due to systemic propaganda many people are misled and become terrorist. e.g. Jundal. For votebank politics and to prove RWE these people can go at any extent.Looks like Sadhvi is another victim of this propaganda.

Even in private hospitals, she can't be saved. She's in 3rd stage. Most probably mets should be infilterating her other organs. She's gonna die soon if news regarding 3rd stage is correct.

In India, the incidence and mortality due to cancer are most commonly associated with breast cancer among females.

Then it will be easy for the govt. to pass the judgement of Saffron Terrorist through the paid media and don't have to go through courts which might rap the NIA for its shoddiness of investigation.

She should be allowed immediate medical treatment. People like Vikas Yadav are rushed to AIIMS from Tihar at a drop of the hat, but for some cases, political vindictiveness comes to the fore.

If she is guilty let the law decided the case fast, and not drag it's feet.

We are a nation of commissions, let a commission be formed to investigate the reason for such long delays in the trials, and to suggest remedial action.

Sadhvi denied bail for cancer treatment

The Bombay high court on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of granting bail to September 2008 Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur even on health grounds. The court, however, said that it would direct the National Investigating Agency (NIA) to provide her good medical treatment for breast cancer.

Sadhvi had approached the court seeking to be released on bail for a few days, so that she could undergo a surgery for breast cancer. “Sadhvi has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Apart from this, she is also suffering from back problems, due to which she is confined to bed. Sadhvi would like to undergo cancer treatment, with her relatives near her and not police personnel,” her lawyer Milan Desai argued.

NIA counsel Rohini Salian, however, opposed the bail plea, stating that the agency would provide her all treatment and assistance. “We will take care of her. She will be operated upon. There is no need to grant her bail,” she argued.

Agreeing with the NIA counsel, Justice R.C. Chavan said, “If the NIA assures good treatment, what is the problem? They are not hostile towards her. There is no question of granting bail.”
