You can see a video on the bottom of that page:A Latvian citizen, Yurii Turlajs, had been working in Scotland. He was paid 20 pounds every few weeks and finally his employer sacked him.
Having no money left, he decided to march to his mother's home in Vitebsk, in Belarus. He was marching for 8 days and nights, walking for about 2000kms. Sometimes he hitchhiked but mostly he walked. Some people bought him a ferry ticket so he got across the channel. When he hitchhiked in Poland, a driver delivered him to a local police station. The policemen brought him to a military hospital, as he got some frostbite and some his bones were broken because he was wearing too small shoes. Random Polish people delivered him a new pair of shoes and warm clothes and the chief of the military hospital bought him a train ticket to Vitebsk using his private money.
