Russian Aerostats radar will be fitted with Israeli SPYDER missiles to give India an edge on the border with Pakistan

New Delhi (Sputnik) — Russian Aerostats radar is back to give Indian armed forces the teeth along India’s border with Pakistan. In the major overhaul of obsolete air defense system along the border, the Russian system will be deployed with Israeli SPYDER air defense missile this year.



Defense sources told Sputnik delivery of Russian Aerostats radar is expected to start in a few months and will be fitted with Israeli EL/M-2083 early-warning radars. India will replace its age-old air defense system at six air bases and some other critical locations along western border with SPYDER, which will replace Soviet-era OSA-AKM and ZRK-BD Strela-10M

This is a very well known marketing tactic of Russian defense agencies, I've seen this EVERY TIME they want to sell something to India, their mouthpieces start saying "India has purchased [X] equipment from Russia" even when we have not purchased anything. They do this to raise public interest in the project, so that after a few months, when the Indian public start asking where is the new equipment, and the Indian establishment says "we didn't purchase it for so and so reason" the public starts thinking that India made the wrong choice by 'cancelling' the sale, while in reality, the order was never signed. Take away message "it was such a nice system, the Indian bureaucracy ruined our chances to acquire it".

I've seen such fake reports planted by Russia during the Armata, T90 thingy to derail Arjun. They did the same when we were evaluating the Israeli Spike missile and American Javelin and Russia started saying "India has purchased Russian missile system". When the Apache trials were in progress, Russia planted news saying India will take Ka52.

There's no basis for this news, it's all sales tactics. India has achieved self reliance in Aerostat systems in 2007 itself. It was a Bangalore firm which has won the contract to supply the balloon part of the aerostat and Israel is supplying the radar. These things are already deployed in Kashmir. Ask @Kunal Biswas he has probably already seen many of these at the LOC.

No one have to travel LOC to see Aerostat based early warning systems , People can see these around Amritsar if some one wish to visit wagha border ceremonies ..

These were already in mass use which are of Indian origin ..
