Russian submarines stalk English Channel: THREE attack ships spotted off Brit coast
RUSSIAN attack submarines have been spotted stalking through British waters just two weeks after Vladimir Putin’s mighty fleet lurched through the English Channel.

By Henry Holloway | Published 30th October 2016 | [SOURCE]

GETTY: VLADIMIR PUTIN: Russia's submarines moved through the English Channel and Irish Sea

Royal Navy bosses revealed three of the vessels have been sighted off the coast of Britain as tensions rise between the Moscow and the West.

Putin’s stealthy ships were sighted by the Brit subs as they crept through the Irish Sea and the English Channel.

British military commanders announced last week they were deploying tanks, fighter aircraft, and troops to the borders of Russia along with their allies from NATO.

Two Akula-class attack ships – armed with land attack cruise missiles – were spotted by the Royal Navy submarine moving through the Irish Sea.

Another ship, a Kilo-class vessel, lurched through the English Channel after being spotted on the surface by the patrol aircraft from Norway.

All three have now passed to the South West of the British Aisles – with a Royal Navy submarine shadowing them as they move towards the Mediterranean.

A naval source told the Express the submarines initially identified themselves before diving deep and escaping from contact.

He said: "They were located once more with support from a NATO partner.”

Russia’s surface fleet passed the White Cliffs of Dover in a chilling power play – led the massive aircraft carrier the Admiral Kuznetsov and battleship Peter the Great.

Putin’s warships are expected to be used in a bid to bring an end to the Syrian Civil War and the proxy conflict being waged between the US and Russia.

Politicians warned the war zone could erupt into a “global war” unless compromise can be found between Washington and Moscow.

With the addition of the submarines, the Kremlin has stamped its naval power on the Med – with experts warning the Russian navy could cut off Europe on the dawn of World War 3.

NATO Commander Rear Admiral Chris Perry said: “This is about Russia wanting a footprint in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“One reason is for its Syrian operations, but the other is so that it can dominate the Black Sea.

“The Akulas and Kilos carry quite a few cruise missiles. They provide protection for the surface force, but are also a potent strike facility in their own right.

“While cruise-missile firing submarines can be viewed as a poor man’s ballistic missile submarine, the advantage is that not carrying a nuclear warhead makes them more usable.

“When we struck Libya, the American submarine USS Florida fired 162 cruise missiles.”
Tensions flared this week when US and Russian fighter jets had a “dangerous near miss” over Syria.

This week the Kremlin unveiling their latest massive missile the Satan 2 – meanwhile testing a “hypersonic glider warhead” to be mounted atop the weapon.

Russia’s nukes can “wipe out” the East Coast of the US on the dawn of World War 3, according to experts.

The Russian Navy’s Great Mediterranean Show of Force

Michael Kofman | October 21, 2016 | [SOURCE]

News has been rippling across Western media of a Russian naval squadron headed by the country’s only aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, slowly making its way towards Syria. Originally announced on July 11th, the combat tour to Syria has been long in the works, together with a host of other Russian naval activities unfolding simultaneously this month. The Russian squadron has been lurching along at a steady pace as part of a tour de force around NATO countries and towards the Eastern Mediterranean. At the time of this writing, the ships were passing through the English Channel. While the military objectives of this mission are not entirely insignificant, Russia’s chief purpose is status projection, leveraging its navy to demonstrate that it is a great power.
The squadron will first irk Russia’s already apprehensive Western neighbors and then make its presence felt in the Middle East. Yet this latest bit of political theater and military showmanship is not without risk. Kuznetsov’s fortunes will determine whether this becomes a demonstration of Russia’s power projection, or an unintended embarrassment, leaving the impression that Moscow is only imitating great power status. The carrier is notoriously unreliable, while many of its fellow ships are also Soviet inheritances—capable but aging.
Russia seeks to intimate that it is one of the few countries able to project military power to distant shores and present the image of having some parity with the United States. Both images will play well with a domestic audience. Behind the scenes, a two year battle over the future of the State Armament Program is also unfolding in Moscow, with military services fighting over a defense procurement budget on the ebb. Despite being a vast Eurasian land power, Russian leaders going back to Peter the Great have a history of lavishing disproportionate attention to the navy, believing that in the international system one must be able to show prowess on the high seas to be recognized as one of the great players in the system.
Vladimir Putin has not deviated from this traditional mindset, only exemplified it. He has at times quoted Alexander III’s famous line that Russia has only two dependable allies: “its army and its navy.” A commentary on geopolitics more so than military matters, but it still holds true to this day. Russia’s navy has taken on considerable risk in a bid to convey to national leadership that it is an invaluable instrument for global status ambitions and national inspiration.
Though often a point of fixation, the Russian carrier Kuznetsov—or perhaps more accurately the originally Soviet-built ‘heavy aviation cruiser’—is also accompanied by the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Peter the Great. This flagship of the Russian Navy packs an arsenal of anti-ship missiles, air defenses and combat capabilities worthy of its prominent name. Kuznetsov’s mission is in part to make a combat debut in Syria, having sailed several times to the region, but never having fought. This is a public relations mission at heart, but also an important training event for Russia’s tiny naval aviation component.
The military aspects of the operation should not be overlooked. Russia’s carrier is often disparaged as a floating lemon, and such criticisms are fair, but the West has an unhealthy track record of underestimating Russian military capabilities for the sake of disparaging them. Unlike previous tours, which were largely for show, this time the ship will likely conduct combat operations, and it's not traveling alone either.
The Kuznetsov set sail on October 15th from Severomorsk for the Syrian coast together with Peter the Great, two Udaloy-class destroyers, a tanker ship and a large tugboat. Little noticed is that on the same day a squadron from Russia’s Pacific Fleet departed Vladivostok on the other side of the world. The second grouping consists of two destroyers (Udaloy and Sovremenny class), together with a large tanker and tug, headed for the Indian Ocean. It’s possible that this task force may choose to rally with the Kuznetsov in the Eastern Mediterranean, or perhaps standby on call in nearby waters.
A host of other naval movements are playing out simultaneously. One of Russia’s newly completed Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates is transferring from the Baltic to the Black Sea Fleet, and may join the group off Syria to fire land attack cruise missiles. It’s possible one of the Northern Fleet’s nuclear-powered submarines has joined this tour as well. The Russian Navy’s comparative strength, its submarine force, is unlikely to have been left completely without a role in this affair.
Two large corvettes from the Baltic Fleet have ventured out of port, either to escort the carrier or join it for exercises on its voyage south. Already on October 18th, the carrier began flight-training operations in the Norwegian Sea, shadowed by the British and Norwegian militaries. Traveling slowly, the Russian Navy will probably make several exercise stops as a pointed show of force to NATO along the way. Although planned well in advance, the first part of this tour will undoubtedly answer some of the ‘deterrence messaging’ by the United States 6th Fleet and NATO ships routinely visiting the Baltic and Black Sea.
Moscow will also try to reply to the United States fairly blunt message in June, when two U.S. carriers were conducting operations in the Eastern Mediterranean in what U.S. Navy officials said was a “demonstration of capability” and “a graphic representation of what we’re capable of” for those watching. Hint, the intended audience was Russia, and Moscow never forgets to repay such favors even if it takes a bit of time. How many ships will ultimately join the carrier’s escorts in the Mediterranean remains a mystery, but the flotilla already seems quite larger than the usual group that would accompany the ship for such a mission.
So what can Russia’s miniature carrier strike group do? The carrier was always limited in its offensive capabilities, particularly once its anti-ship missile tubes were removed. The ship is more about Russian pride than menace—though the Russian Navy has been working to restore its largely moribund naval aviation component. Along with 10 older Su-33s, the ship will carry 4 new Mig-29KR multirole fighters and perhaps a few Ka-52K helicopters as well. While its max capacity is 50 aircraft and helicopters, the air wing inside is likely much more modest. The ship uses a ski-jump design, which generally limits takeoff weight for aircraft given there are no catapults. However, these design constraints in no way mean that Russian planes will not be able to launch and conduct air strikes over Syria, or armed combat air patrols over the sea. More problematic is that Russia has few pilots capable of carrier operations, which means this mission will stretch human capital along with military hardware. There are likely more planes than pilots to fly them onboard Kuznetsov.
The carrier also has a troublesome history with unreliable boilers and a track record of embarrassing breakdowns. It is an unlucky ship. Over its service life, the ship has spent more time in repair, overhaul, or some type of refit than operational status. In 2009, the Kuznetsov had a hellish voyage to the Mediterranean when a fire broke out due to short circuit, leading to one death onboard. One month later, a refueling accident south of Ireland led to the ship dumping perhaps 300 tons of oil into the sea. The tugboat Nikolai Chiker is a trusty sidekick, given its large brother has at times completely lost propulsion in stormy seas. It also has an automatic identification system (AIS) active allowing the fleet to be readily followed on commercial maritime websites. Unlike Russian air force flights near NATO countries, this cruise has its transponders activated for everyone to see.
The Kuznetsov may be the least reliable ship in the fleet, but it has recently completed another overhaul and Russia’s Navy seems confident the carrier is up to the task. The Pacific squadron may be the navy’s backup plan in case the Kuznetsov has to turn back due to malfunction. Given that the current tension in U.S.-Russian relations has resulted in heightened media attention, one can only hope for their sake that past performance will not repeat itself. If this adventure becomes a public fiasco, Vladimir Putin is unlikely to prove merciful.
The Russian Admiralty in St. Petersburg should be given its due, from new submarines, to cruise missile strikes in Syria, and an operational tempo not seen in decades, the Russian Navy has made notable strides. Resurgence is perhaps the wrong word, but a steady revival is certainly taking place. That being said, the Kuznetsov may not be the best way to demonstrate it. The ship is a symbol of Soviet heritage, laden with the vestiges of former superpower status, together with the realities and frustrations that still bedevil Russia’s present day military. Russians familiar with the ship will be watching its voyage no less nervously than Western onlookers.

Lessons of Syria: Russia to Form a ‘Superlight’ Brigade Equipped With ‘Technicals
Russian Ministry of Defense wants to take a UAZ pickup and strap on it a machine gun, a grenade launcher or anti-tank missiles and use them to conduct raids over open terrain

(Russian Defense Policy) | [SOURCE]

Originally appeared at Russian Defense Policy

Izvestiya reports that Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu is organizing some “superlight” army brigades. It’s an interesting turn given that his widely discredited predecessor Anatoliy Serdyukov also looked at forming light motorized rifle brigades based on wheeled vehicles. Perhaps the latter’s mistake was that the vehicles weren’t necessarily Russian-made.

Shoygu’s “superlight” brigades will use the UAZ Patriot — either the SUV or Pickup variant. The SUV is referred to as a jeep at times. An earlier model — the Hunter — actually resembles a jeep.

UAZ Pickup

UAZ Hunter

The intent, reportedly based on Syrian combat experience, is for these “superlight” motorized rifle brigades to slip around or through heavier enemy forces to conduct raids at distances of several hundred kilometers.

According to Izvestiya, the UAZ Patriot or Pickup is supposed to carry up to seven soldiers (a highly dubious proposition), their weapons and gear, as well as additional fuel, supplies, and ammo. It will be armed with either a 30-mm AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher or Kornet or Konkurs ATGMs, as well as a 12.7-mm Kord machine gun. The brigade’s mortar batteries are supposed to have 82-mm 2B14 Podnos mortars mounted on the UAZ vehicles.

An MOD official familiar with the developments told Izvestiya the formation of the “superlight” brigades has begun, and they will appear “soon” in the Southern and Central MDs. They will have less personnel and equipment than traditional MRBs, but will be more mobile and maneuverable. The “superlight” brigades will also have one battalion in BTR-82s as well as artillery and MRL battalions.

Izvestiya got a comment from Vladislav Shurygin:

“These battalions are being developed from the experience of combat actions in Syria. In a day, the typical motorized rifle battalion equipped with armored personnel carriers or infantry fighting vehicles can complete a march of not more than100 km. But an MRB in the UAZ Patriot can go several hundred kilometers in a day.

Moreover, acting in small groups, motorized rifle platoons and companies in pickups can slip through enemy forces and deliver quick strikes. But these battalions are only effective in desert, steppe, and semidesert terrain. In forests and forest-steppe, automobile-mounted infantry loses out to infantry in BMPs and BTRs in combat capability.”

Izvestiya notes that, in 2009, Serdyukov put the 56th Independent Air-Assault Brigade in the UAZ Hunter, but the experiment was quickly abandoned. The MOD official says they were needed and worked well in the Volgograd steppe, but it was difficult to fit personnel and equipment in the Hunter. Soldiers, he said, sat cheek to cheek in very cramped conditions. That brigade returned to its venerable GAZ-66 trucks.

The same problem is likely with the UAZ Patriot and Pickup. They look like four-seaters.

This sounds like a sweet little deal for UAZ. It is part of the larger Sollers automobile manufacturing group, itself owned by Russian steel conglomerate Severstal.

It’s odd there’s no photo of an UAZ Patriot or Pickup military prototype when the first “superlight” brigades are reportedly almost ready to appear.

And there is also potential competition. The Military-Industrial Company (VPK) has its Tigr light armored vehicle with a 30-mm gun or Kornet or Konkurs ATGM launchers mounted. The Tigr, however, is a larger, heavier, and much more expensive vehicle.

GAZ might make something comparable to the Patriot or Pickup. GAZ already makes the BTR-82. Like VPK, GAZ is owned ultimately by Oleg Deripaska.

Syrian Girl Mysteriously 'Saved' Again and Again (PHOTO, VIDEO)

This time we offer our readers an opportunity to be film critics and to assess acting talents and make-up artist’s work. Because that’s how one should examine a footage with a girl who presumably suffered from Bashar al-Assad’s army attacks.

At first sight the photos which went viral in the Arab and Western media on August 28 2016 excite pity and seemingly righteous indignation: a peaceful Lamb of God aka White Helmets’ volunteer is carrying two injured children. Social media say the photos have been made after attack on Al-Nayrab(Arabic: النيرب ) district of Aleppo.

We remind that disputable activity of that «volunteer organization» has been picked to pieces inRussian Spring’s review: Armed "saviours" under "an-Nusra" flags — Russian Spring investigation of White Helmets' strange "peacemaking" in Syria (PHOTOS, VIDEO 18+), that is why today we are going to focus on the footage only.

Pay attention to the injured girl: scared, dishevelled, with blood on her face.

But she was «saved» more than once: the same girl is carried by the three (!) different «volunteers» each after each.

Here is the girl in another man’s hands: still White Helmets’ emblem and car got into the shot:

And now — the third «saviour»:

These photos went viral in the Western media and social networks. It’s obvious that it has been filmed by many photographers including those working for the biggest informational agencies.

Just like that the oldest Israeli edition Haaretz published that picture and indicated some Abdalrhman Ismail working for Reuters as an author.

The first question is: why was the girl carried by several men, why did they pass her to each other? The answer is simple: to make more tear-sqeezing photos for the Western media.

But the main thing is that the «volunteers» who took part in fabricating photo- and videomaterials found perfect model and decided to involve her in the other propaganda pieces.

The footage spread by Sky News on September 24 show White Helmets’ «volunteers» «saving» the same girls once again.

This case is yet more proof that Western propaganda has easy time not only distorting facts but garbling overtly when it has to persuade its audience in «Assad’s horrendous crimes».

Those who doubt that such acting (including heavy make-up) with the same young actress which can make millions of Internet users weep could be real we would like to remind a series of photos made in 2015 and casting a light upon how modern informational wars are fought:

We remind that the users claimed that it had something to do with the Iranian special services but there was no reliable and trustworthy information about who did that and when.

RESCUE REDUX: Are Syria’s White Helmets ‘Recycling’ its Child Victims?
OCTOBER 18, 2016 BY SHAWN HELTON 2 COMMENTS
Shawn Helton
21st Century Wire

Since bursting onto the global media scene, the US-UK backed ‘NGO’ known as the White Helmets have produced an unprecedented amount of western-oriented war propaganda. From the New York Times to the BBC, to Time Magazine, everywhere you look, you will see establishment western media outlets promoting the White Helmets. Upon closer examination, however, it seems that the group may be reusing its alleged victims as character subjects in its numerous stagedrescue photo opportunities.

Since their inception in late 2013, the White Helmets have been financed to the tune of over $100 million from the UK and US alone, along with millions more from various other NATO, EU and GCC member states – all nations who are deeply invested in arming and backing rebel-terrorists vying for regime change in Syria.

The White Helmets have even pirated the moniker ‘Syria Civil Defence’ from the REAL Syrian Civil Defence.

The group also claims to have “saved 62,000 lives” since they began ‘search and rescue’ activities in early 2014. None of their incredible claims can be independently verified – and yet, these claims are accepted without question by the entirety of the US and European media and political establishment.

Still, they claim to be “nonaligned” and “independent.” To say this the group is misrepresenting itself and facts on the ground in Syria is an understatement, especially after looking at some of its fabled rescue scenes, proudly displayed on their social media accounts and robotically rerun by western corporate media.

‘MEDIA FALSE FLAG’ – The NGO known as the White Helmets have already been caught staging numerous rescue scenes, allegedly shot in rebel-terrorist-held eastAleppo, Idlib and Daara (Photo Illustration 21WIRE)

White Helmet Staging

The so-called “first responder” NGO has been cranking out its iconic war images and rescue videos at an unprecedented rate, leading many to question what this group is really doing, and why. Independent critics and analysts such as the website Moon of Alabama have noted that much of the White Helmets imagery is riddled with anomalies. Here’s one such passage from a Moon report last June, 2016 which revealed the staged nature present in so many of the White Helmets alleged ‘rescue’ operations:

“Isn’t it an amazing fortune that so many kids get rescued ALIVE by the “White Helmets”, without any serious wounds visible, just moments after bomb impacts? This week after week? With all the same attributes in each picture? No photo editor at any of the big media ever wondered about that?

Some of these photos may show real scenes. But most are definitely staged. These staged photos are part of the war propaganda against the Syrian people and their government.

The “White Helmets” take and distribute these photos. They also distribute lots of “kids rescued from rubble” videos.”

Other aspects explored in the Moon report unveiled various PR and social media elements pushing the designer NGO campaign used to shape foreign policy:

The Syria Campaign and the White Helmets – Propaganda Camouflaged as Humanitarian

The Syria Campaign [US-UK run PR vehicle for the White Helmets] was created by Purpose Campaigns LLC. The company fabricates and runs for you any world-wide “grass root” movement you would like. With Purpose LLC or other such companies involved, big dollars will buy you big effects. How about an automated Twitter campaign to spread anti-Shia sectarianism? Someone paid for it and here it is.

The “White Helmets” campaign demonstrates the amazing manipulation potential such companies and their high paying customers have.”

Other questions regarding the alleged rescue were once again raised by Hands Off Syria and other independent researchers. Although 21WIRE cannot definitively verify all claims presented here, the visual evidence is more than compelling. Readers can judge the evidence for themselves…

Here’s a closer look at this young girl who appears to have been featured more than once in White Helmets ‘No Fly Zone’ promotional imagery:

The same child was used again & again by the western propagandists..
The child is just a victim of the US & its allies!#Aleppo #Syria

2:40 AM - 14 Oct 2016

Here is another exhibit posted by another researcher analyzing a SKY News report from ‘rebel-held’ Syria:

Here is one well documented fraud where the White Helmets recycled a random image of a man holding a child claiming to be a victim of “Russian airstrikes” after previously using the image before Russia air force was ever in Syria:

In another Moon article entitled, The U.S./UK Financed “White Helmets” Shtick – Fake “Child Rescued” Videos,” we see a timeline for the uncanny White Helmet rubble rescue operations:

“NYT – December 23 2013: After Airstrike, Children Are Rescued From the Rubble Independent – January 25 2014: Astonishing video shows moment Syrian toddler pulled alive from rubble after Aleppo bombing This video, like others below, was also published by the New York Daily News, The Guardian, USA Today, Yahoo and many other news outlets.”

In early October, the UK’s Guardian newspaper published what amounts to a ridiculous propaganda piece that featured the White Helmets public face, leader Raed al-Saleh,who claims he can tell which planes are striking in Syria – based from sound alone:

“These days, Raed al-Saleh [deported from the US in 2016] doesn’t have to see a warplane to know what kind of bombs it drops. He just needs to hear it. “It’s very depressing,” Saleh says. “Based on its sound, we can predict the kind of airplane, and then anticipate the scale of the destruction.” He has reached the stage where he hopes for the rumble of a Mig-29, rather than a Su-24. It’s the Su-24s that carry the cluster bombs.”

NOTE: Last week, photos emerged supposedly depicting what looked to be “US jets being painted with Russian colors.”

Other White Helmets propaganda appeared in late August if you remember, in an emotionally charged story featuring a Syrian child named Omran Daqneesh in the aftermath of an alleged airstrike. The polarizing story quickly was quickly exploited by Western media outlets, which in turn, was readily accepted by the general public without question.

Here’s another look at the mainstream presentation of the Omran Daqneesh video that pulled at the heartstrings of western media consumers…

While watching the entire video footage of the event, the dust-covered boy who appeared to be bleeding after an apparent airstrike (yet the blood has already coagulated) is left unattended and without pain as he was oddly propped up in an ambulance seat while being photographed by Mahmoud Raslan – an alleged ‘media activist’ who was seen “fraternizing with terrorist groups in Aleppo.”

This prompted critics to charge that Raslan was directly tied to the White Helmets, who are firmly embedded with Al-Qaeda members, while regularly dispensing staged humanitarian media images and video for public consumption.

Here is an image of the ‘Dusty Boy’ Omran alongside another child, a young ‘Dusty Girl’ who, like Omran, was dumped by “rescuers” on to an orange seat inside the brand new ambulance – only to be photographed by the White Helmets’ surrogate, French government-funded “Aleppo Media Centre“. As you can see, the girl has a near identical face ‘make-up’ look to Omran, and like Omran, she does not appear to be crying, in pain, or stressed at all – which is highly improbable:

Has the adorable crowd favorite Omran been used before in past ‘rescues’?

Interestingly, according to one researcher, here are two other potential ‘Omran rescues’ from early 2014 and early 2016:

Readers can make up their own minds, and research these images for themselves. Is it possible that the White Helmets and Aleppo Media Centre using these children for western Agit Proppurposes in Syria, including campaigning for a US-backed ‘No Fly Zone’ (see Avaaz/Purpose Inc campaign here) or a ‘Safe Zone’ (see other Avaaz/Purpose Inc campaign here) inside of Syria? This is an important question which should be asked by members of the western media.

‘Saving the Children’

In September, other western-backed NGO’s emerged in western media coverage, such as Save the Children,a group directly tied to the George Soros’ Open Society Foundation and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Western politicians have latched on to the talking point that there are somehow “100,000 children trapped in Aleppo.” This is completely distorted – there are only an estimated 200,000 people remaining in rebel-terrorist-held East Aleppo and it’s outrageous to assume that half of those are children. The vast majority non-terrorist affiliated civilians have actually fled to the sanctuary of government-protected West Aleppo which is now housing some 1.5 million residents. This is a fact completely omited in the western PR rhetoric on “Aleppo.”

The charity was also featured inheavily propagandized ‘Syrian’ story which was picked up by the UK’s Telegraph.

The Telegraph article is one of the most incredible pieces of western war propaganda aired to date, and was also syndicated by the The Guardian and other outlets. The article also included a quote from Save the Children andappears to be exploiting the story of Bana Alabed (image, above), supposedly a 7-year-old girl who “with the help of her mother,” Fatemah Alabed, has supposedly taken to twitter to share her family struggles in Syria. The stories depicts a picture perfect Bana living happily in what appears to be a modern flat, with her toy dolls – somewhere in Al Nusra (al Qaeda) held East Aleppo, is tweeting polemics in English like:

“Please stop killing us,” she tweets, “I need peace to become a teacher. This war is killing my dream.”
