    This is a myth, spirits decrease core body temperature than increasing it. Some thing else might have helped elephants.

    That's true.
    It's probably the warm water that was mixed with the vodka or physical activity (like 'roaring') that was spurred by alcohol consumption which caused an increase in body temperature.

    Also the animals were not exposed to the cold for a long time. Eventually they would have died from cold.
