Russia to cut army contract servicemen over shortage of funds

Russia's Defense Ministry will be forced to further cut the number of contract servicemen due to a lack of funds, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said on Thursday.

Wonder why don't they maintain a professional army straight forward rather than 700,000 conscripts who are ill-trained and in-experienced? Professional Army would be organized, given proper training and be more civilized than unruly conscripts who are the reason behind Russian Army's brutality towards new conscripts' deaths in the last 4-5 years.
