You HAVE to buy new receivers or get license from Russia to manufacture them at home.
Brahmos, MKI etc will need new GLONASS receivers. They are currently using French made GPS receivers.

Brahmos already has a GLONASS receiver.

Once GLONASS is ready, we will gradually start dumping GPS within our military, including the Navy. When we get superior singnals from GLONASS, why will we want to use the civilian GPS signals again. GLONASS military signals provide 4 to 6 cm accuracy while the civilian GPS signals that we are allowed to use are accurate upto 30cm. The military GPS signals are accurate upto 2cm. So, there is no question of using GPS ever again.

Only us Civvie car wallas and town planning wallas will continue using the cheaper and better GPS. The civilian GLONASS signals aren't particularly good compared to GPS.
Which means that the MKI and BrahMos upgrade that we are planning in next 2-4 years will include replacing the entire GPS receivers onboard to be changed to GLONASS. It will take some serious time if we think of changing 272 MKIs and the 1,000+BrahMos we are planning to have or having. I hope Joint Service Command knows how fast to take this.

I don't assume its going to be an expensive re-fit. Gps receivers, the civilian ones are cheap, by military budget at least.
Its not about expense for the military; it is the time taken. You know how things work here when it comes to timing.

well the real thing here is Russia has not provided us with the military grade signals for now the talks are on the way and GlONASS is considered to be much more accurate then GPS and needs very less number of satellite to function as it is working on Longitude based and not latitude based like GPS

Both of them work on different frequency

GPS Frequency 1.57542 GHz (L1 signal) and 1.2276 GHz (L2 signal)

Only the PNR codes and the encryption differs

Glonass Frequency L1 = 1602 MHz + (n x 0.5625) MHz ( n is the channel number) = L1 = 1602.5625 when n =1, L1 = 1604.8125 when n =5, L1 = 1607.625 when n = 10

Using GPS and Glonass

In order to determine a position in GPS-only mode the receiver must track a minimum of four satellites, representing the four unknowns of 3-D position and time. In combined GPS/GLONASS mode, the receiver must track five satellites, representing the same four previous unknowns and at least one GLONASS satellite to determine the GPS/GLONASS time offset.

I dont think they will ever be changed only the new system or new production will have Glonass may be there is a very little chance of Upgrading Su 30 MKI with Gloanass in future but surely not Brahmos

Brahmos has already received GLONASS receivers. It will be a standard fit soon on most of the Brahmos.

The French GPS receivers on MKI is set to be replaced with GLONASS in the future as well. Contract negotiations are long completed. Now we are awaiting the launch of the last GLONASS satellite.

If MKI can receiver new radars, then GLONASS receiver will not take much time.

Now, next step, bring down prices

Russia's new smartphone lays down challenge for GPS

But it does serve one important purpose - demonstrating that Glonass works.

After decades of development, Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System, had begun to be used for state purposes.

Many police cars, ambulances and public transport vehicles are equipped with receivers.

The launch of the Chinese-built phone was the next step towards Glonass' wider public acceptance.

Russia tests carrier rocket for Glonass satellite launch

Russia's Space Forces have started ground tests of a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket, which will orbit a Glonass satellite at the end of August, spokesman Lt. Col. Vitaly Vyatkin said on Thursday.
"The rocket has not been assembled yet but its systems and ground equipment are connected together by electric wires for preliminary testing," Vyatkin said. "If the tests go well the stages of the rocket are then put together."
The so-called "dry run" is conducted at the Plesetsk space center. The second testing will be carried out at the launch pad, 24 hours prior to the launch.
The launches of Glonass satellites have been assigned to Soyuz rockets after a Proton-M carrier rocket with three Glonass-M satellites veered off course and sunk in the Pacific Ocean on December 5 last year.
The failure was attributed to a series of manufacturing mistakes.
The satellites were supposed to finalize the creation of Russia's Glonass Global Navigation Satellite System.
Glonass is Russia's answer to the U.S. Global Positioning System, or GPS, and is designed for both military and civilian uses. Both systems allow users to determine their positions to within a few meters.
Russia currently has a total of 26 Glonass satellites in orbit, although only 20 of them are functional.
The complete Glonass grouping must have 24 operational and 2-3 reserve satellites for the Glonass network to operate with global coverage.

instead of depending on russians we need to expand the planned irnss from 7 sateelites to 30 satteites which will give it global coverage.
