Dismal financial conditions in Greece have enabled ultra right wing Golden Dawn to enter Hellenic Parliament for the first time. This is a dedicated thread to collate all relevant information.

Whenever a country fails to recognise its problems and then because of that fails to organises a solution, radicals of all types show their ugly heads.

Crazy Yavanas. This is what happens when the economy goes bad - people turn to radical politics.

Europe is screwed. There are similar ultra facist groups in France and Spain. Germany is seeing a Neo Nazi revival. And England is seeing a soccer thug loot spree . Gotta love the Europeans. Well, the peace lasted 60 years now, time for more slaughter.
civ is right, when the money dries up, its easier for wank jobs to organize a few people and pull off shit.

Now that the supply from erstwhile colonial loot have truly dried up, and the opportunity to manipulate and intimidate ex-colonial countries have gone slim to none, the true face of supposedly civilized Europeans are coming out of the wood-works. Expect more drama and nautanki from here. Popcorn time!

To be fair, Greece was not a colonial power. Western Europeans considered them to be racially inferior (when those theories were in vogue)

I was not talking about Greece. The latter incident is truly unfortunate. But the Eurozone crisis is hardly limited to Greece. More or less all the PIIGS nations are associated with it. That's a lot of countries. And apart from that we also have England with a massive GDP to Dept ratio, don't know how well Netherlands or Belgium is doing, Austria, or other inland west European country is a complete enigma to me. But , long story short, there indeed have been an inevitable de-industrialization in Europe right now , with associated job loss and a definite perceptible loss of living standard-- exactly what they did to the rest of the world during the jackboot of colonial era. So, it is kind of hard to draw sympathy to the current plight of their descendants. That's all.

well it is but natural for people faced with despair to cling at straws that seem to offer them hope no matter how improbable that hope may be! Humans a s a species tend to let go of inhibitions and "shake hands with the devil" if you may when it begins to suit our rosy view of our own futures, this i see is much in the same light . Faced with the utter failure of successive moderate Greek politicians to reform and renew their nation the Greeks have turned to the Golden dawn hoping for a golden dawn of it's own.

that is in ancient times . in medieval times they were ruled by the turkish ottoman empire and were nothing better than religiously persecuted slaves for 4 centuries . they were liberated by the british french and russians from turkish rule in the naval battle of navarino in 1829.

thats a really long time ago . but marauding turkish hordes migrating from central asia changed all that . the seljuk turkish sultan alp arslan defeated the greek army of emperor romanus diogenes in 1071 in the battle of manzikert and conquered anatolia from the greeks . partly out of policy and partly out of sheer barbarism the turks changed the entire topography of anatolia converting it into a dust bowl from a settled agricultural land . the majority of the formerly greek population of anatolia pershed in this .

later the turks founded the ottoman state in anatolia and under sultan mahmud the conqueror invaded and conquered constantinople and massacred its greek population and also conquered greece . constantinople was renamed istanbul .
