Ranchi, Aug. 13: Nine boys between nine and 14 years, rescued in May from the streets of Bangalore selling pani puri and reunited with parents in Koderma, are currently lifting bricks and not schoolbags in the absence of any state rehab initiative these past three months.

Koderma-based social organisation Samarpan, collaborating with the administration, got the children back home from Bangalore, but the nine children — their age covered under the Right to Education Act — couldn’t manage to go to school.

Representatives of Samarpan, Campaign For Right To Education in Jharkhand (CREJ) and CRY alleged before the media today at Ranchi’s Satya Bharti auditorium that Koderma’s child welfare committee, local administration and district labour and district social welfare officials had showed no initiative.

CREJ convener Neeraj Kumar said that the boys, all belonging to Domchanch block of Koderma, had been lured from homes by middlemen known to the parents and promised “light work and schooling” but made to work as full-time pani puri vendors in Bangalore.

“Once rescued and brought home, the boys were neither given the mandatory counselling by the child welfare committee nor clearance certificate by the labour department that would enable their parents get job benefits. They haven’t been sent to schools. The children are back to work, this time as brick lifters,” Kumar said.

Echoing Kumar’s views, Indramani Sahu, secretary of Samarpan, rued no one was bothered to monitor missing children from villages as well as their rehab in the event of a rescue.

CREJ member Manorama Ekka chipped in: “If children don’t get any benefits, how does the rescue make any difference?”

When The Telegraph contacted Koderma district commissioner K. Ravikumar, he claimed he had done all he could. “I have written to the DSE and BDO on July 21 to enrol the children to schools,” he said.

DSE Jitendra Kumar Sinha said Domchanch block had nine primary schools for 24 villages but all were reeling under an acute manpower and textbook crunch.

“I have spoken to the headmasters. I am doing my best,” he said.

State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Sanjay Mishra said he was aware of the case. “We have received a report on the nine Koderma children from the NGOs concerned. We will speak to Koderma DC K. Ravikumar on why the rescued children were denied all the benefits,” he promised.

A very sad and disturbing tale and certainly one that is not fitting for Independence Day. I think that child labor and exploitation are one of the greatest evils plaguing India. Our honorable PM Modiji should look into this problem ASAP and remove this practice. Children belong to schools and not in the roadside dhabas/tanning factories. Also the poor parents of the children should also learn that a big family is not a happy family. I think family planning will be a solution to the host of problems facing India.

Don't you think that the parents are biggest culprits?

What rehab is needed? Parents masti kar rahe and childern labour. If these kids could get work, how come parents don't have any work?

Rightly said. The parents should have adopted proper family planning technique. Sadly health officials are often chased or scared away from villages when they go there to spread awareness on various health issues and proper family planning techniques. Even here in DFI you can see many educated people claiming that India is actually not overpopulated. If this is the state of our country then how can things improve.

Its none of your or my ----ing business how many times the couples want to ---- productively or how they want to raise the fruits of their loins. So yeah, I wont dignify that question with an answer. The very fact that indians are willing to intrude into something as personal as this is deeply troubling and reeks of socialist moral high ground nonsense.

More crap. Most industrialised countries have reduced population growth as a secondary consequence of industrialisation. Nowhere in the world had there been a successful family planning program leading to successful industrialisation/economic growth.

Writing rhetorical nonsense again and again does not make it right.

Btw, the unskilled labours in many places in TN today earn more income than several educated white collar labours incase any of you keyboard geniuses wanted to know about real life.

Even after seeing this thing you still feel that India is not overpopulated then I have nothing to say to you. All I am saying is that family planning will save these poor children from misery.

I appreciate your salutation, though I do not know I deserve it or not.

Anyway I have not written a single thing about sterilization. I have only said that family planning techniques would get rid of this problem. Instead of family planning what solution do you propose?
Just give a sane, kind reply without resorting to personal attacks against me. As for socialism I am not a fan of it. I am an Bengali brahmin myself and I think India should become an meritocratic and capitalist country. However socialism/communism is required in varying degrees in India as a lot of the minorities/low castes are still poor. After all socialism is for the benefit of the poor as per its original doctrine. Without free sops and benefits their misery will not go away. When their upliftment has been done India should not have any socialist/communist policies and should instead become a capitalist country.,

Family planning is planned to fail especially in a country like India where 16% of the population thinks children are "allah ka rehmat" or "gifts of allah".
The only way India's population can be controlled is through massive urbanization and industrialization. This is a basic concept in economics: The more prosperous a society becomes, the more birth rate goes down.
People are quick to blame parents and society for things like child labour but what they don't understand is that those poor people have no other option. No amount of "rescuing" them will work. As long as India doesn't provided abundant amount of opportunity for a chance to prosperity to it's citizens, such social ills will continue inspite of shedding tears by NGO's. Same is the case with Family Planning.

This is not possible in SOCIALIST INDIA where demand far outnumber supply. India should immediately proceed with market reforms if it wants to stand with head held high in the league of nations. Otherwise India is condemned to remain a 4th or 5th world country.

You are right on most issues. However can a country industrialize and urbanize if it has a vast population which drains its raw material and resources?

This is off topic but I think I should tell you about the two countries where Industrial revolution first occurred------------> Belgium and England.

As I have said that the population of England during the end of Hundred Year`s War was about 2 million people. The population of France at this time period was about 20 million and that of India was about 100 million.

A History of the Population of England

Now when the Industrial Revolution England had tonnes and tonnes of coal. In fact England had one of the greatest reserves of coal during the time before the Revolution. As a result this led to cheap raw materials for their industries.(Of course their colonies helped them with materials too). On the other hand France despite its huge population could not become an Industrial powerhouse during that period.

Similarly Belgium was a tiny country with an even smaller population(check any map). Yet Belgium is the second country in the world to become industrialized due to its coal reserves. So both this countries with a smaller population became industrialized and urbanized.
Belgium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also the population of this countries increased only after they had industrialized.(contrary to what Mad Indian is claiming)

Now I would ask @Mad Indian to explain me why such a thing happened.

This is a classic chicken and egg problem. Does industrialization occurs first or population control?
The solution should be pragmatic. Its far easier to initiate market reforms then family planning. There will be lesser resistance to the first. Countries like Thailand,Korea,Singapore and China have gone from zero to hero in a matter of 2 decades. Now there is a growing consensus in India for more market reforms. It won't take more then 10 years to bring India's birth rate drastically low if massive industrialization happens on war footing, through reforms.

Well in both Belgium and England, there was a small population. In fact France had 20% of the population of Europe at one point. Despite this France lost out in this industrial war. After the industrial development there was a population boom in England and Belgium.

Its funny that irony is lost on you. My mistake. You have to read my reply in context with your reply to understand the meaning.

Wow. The reason reservarion is needed in the first place is because india is still a retarded socialist country in the first place. It is there to prevent exploitation of low castes by the upper castes who dominate the bureaucracy and govt(even to this date). It is to ensure proper representation of all communjties. I only need reservation for my caste if I am forced to get a license/approval for my business. That is becuase caste based discrimination is still true even to this date. You make india into a capitalist free market country, where I can operate my life without govt interference, I would not care about reservation because it would be useless to me.

The biggest lie the socialists spread is about how reservations are socialist. They conveniently hide how it is needed to protect the rights of everyone by ensuring proper representation of every one and how it is necessiated by the the fact that govt is socialistic(meaning has huge control over the citizen)

What bull shit. Socialism is the single greatest enemy of poor. The best social security program for the poor is a job which will be generated by increased business of the capitalist model which is blocked by the socialist retards. If india had had a capitalist govt right from the independence we would be at the living standard of south koreans now. So every extra death which has happened per capita in india more than in south korea is due to the retarded socialist policies

Socialism is a highly ingenius crap system designed to keep the status quo and keep poor poor for ever. I hope every socialist dies a karmic death for crimes against humanity if something as karma or god really did exist:mad:

If people like you still have not realised how crappy socialism is despite suffering from it worst compared to other indian states amazes me. If you people still refuse to learn, then you people deserve to enter the bimaru states just when they are showing promise of recovery.:tsk:

 what you have written is in no way related to what I have written

Wow. Another huge load of nonsense.

Dude do do you even have any idea on what you are writing?

There is a huge difference between population growth and population growth rates.

Industrialised countries experience slower population growth /growth rate! It does not mean industrialised countries do not grow at all population wise! I am again saying stop writing about stuff you dont know about.
US is still growing population wise but its growth rate is slower than india becuase it is more industrialised than india.that is because people relying on industrial sector for income will have lower no. of children than people involved in agriculture.

I have a question for you- scenerio 1. say india magically achived a net replacement TFR of 2.1 and stops growing population wise . But it remains a socialist state which restricts freedom and free market.

Scenerio 2. India does not have a comprehensive population restriction program and maintains the current TFR 2.5 . But institutes reforms and makes india a free market paradise.

Which india will be more prosperous? 1 or 2

    @fyodor

India is not even as overpopulated as made out to be dude. See my OP. there are sevral much more developed countries around the worl(which dont even export oil) which are much more overpopulated than us and yet enjoy a much better standard of living! List includes China, UK, Italy, Japan, South korea, Netherlands

In fact CONgoons blamed their economic failure due to thier dumb----ed socialist policies on population growth. And this gullible population ate up their bull shit as tripati prasadam

2nd scenario will ultimately progress towards TFR of 2.1 as it has happened in all developed countries without any govt intervention or family planning.

Now coming to scenario 1 where India is a socialist state with low birth rate:
One of the reason poor societies have higher population is because they need more hands to do the daily chores. Considering that in this hypothetical India people are forced to maintain 2.1 without any opportunities, the economy will stagnate and crimes will rise (because they need some replacement of "extra hands" needed to do the chores)
This is a terrible scenario. Its far better to be poor and overpopulated then to be poor and under populated. This is the same thing which happened with Soviet Union. They artificially controlled birth rate in an humongous socialist state. Result was massive inflation, industrial breakdown, economic breakdown and finally national disintegration.

It's best to progress in a holistic organic way which is only possible in a free nation. Let the nature take its own course.
But also one important point: There are some religions/ideologies which will still insist on producing more kids even if the society becomes advanced. Now that will be un-natural and should be needed to tackled.
