ISLAMABAD: Pak-US deal to replace PC-3 Orion aircraft destroyed during the terrorist attack on PNS Airbase has been scrapped subsequent to the rising tensions in relations between the two allies in the war on terror.

US government informed Pakistan that it would not deliver any PC-3 Orion surveillance aircraft given the existing tense relations. American has not only backed off from its assurance of delivery of two PC-3 Orion aircraft but also from delivering three additional planes.

Secretary Defence Production, Lt-Gen Shahid Iqbal (retd) stated that the government is not expecting any of the five aircraft to be delivered to Pakistan given the trust deficit between the two countries. Pakistan requested the US to supply three additional PC-3 Orion planes for its Navy to make up for the loss of two planes destroyed by terrorists at Mehran Air Base Karachi in an act of terrorism.

Talking at the concluding session of the National Assemblys Special Public Accounts Committee, Secretary revealed that the government has been looking at alternative to these destroyed aircraft.

Pakistan Naval Aviation is an important arm of the Pakistan Navy and assists in surface and submarine flights to guarantee the safety of Pakistani sea borders. The loss of the planes could weaken the capacity of the Navy in action against terrorists on the sea. Defence sources maintain that the delivery of PC-3 Orion planes was part of the $ 800 million US military assistance to Pakistan under the Coalition Support Fund which has been suspended until Pakistan meets certain US demands. Earlier, Chairman PAF Kamra, Air Marshal Farhat Hussain said Pakistan could not fully indigenize its JF-17 aircraft as it required enormous cost and advanced technology. However, he disclosed that PAF Kamra achieved 58 percent deletion the previous year but 100 percent deletion was not in the governments plan. He said Kamra built a record 26 planes in the last two years.

PAK NAVY now rendered eyeless and earless and considering that paf has lost its eyes long ago as proven in the obama raid , the situation is one of a glass house effect

This "proves" India was behind this attack.

But anyways they have 1 Orion left and because 1 PAF Orion=10 IAF Poseidon, they still have "superiority" over us.
Not to mention the all weather friend would reverse engineer the technology and "gift" them a few on soft loans.

When this attack was happening Chinese engineers were INSIDE the Mehran base trying to unravel the secrets of the P 3 C avionics

So Chinese planes are NOT as good right now; that Pakistan will immediately buy the Chinese planes

With the loss of these P3 C planes Pak naval reconnaissance capability is now just similar to that of Indian Coast Gaurd

For some reason, I cannot digest all this completely. The US has been arm twisted by Pak by ways of various blackmail into getting what it wants. I don't know for sure if the US is now firm in dealing with Pak or not. If that is the case then I am waiting for a formal breakdown in relations and get on to the next step in the war on terror and take it to it's logical conclusion.

I love the line in the last paragraph: the loss of the aircraft will severly weaken the capacity of the Navy to tackle the terrorists from sea.
This is indeed a new one from our neighbours.

There is not going to be a "formal breakdown" in relations betwen teh US and Pakistan. Neither countries want a full breakdown. The US does not like it for the simple reason that China will completely step into the void while Pakistan will not like it since it would mean the loss of billionsof dollars in aid and the real posssibility that the US will completely destabilize it. Note that the US still exerts enormous influence within Pakistan due to the cadres of still loyal (or paid) military officials willing to do it favors.

It will be an interesting development what Pakistan will do next. Obviously, this news is a slap in its face.

BTW, aside from the cadres of military officials that the US can still rely on inside Pakistan, there are laso millions of Afghan refugees inside Pakistan that the US can infiltrate directly or indirectly through the Afghan intelligence. So Pakistan is also in for a ride on this one... Good luck s#cke*s!
