as the security apparatus of many countries have been upgraded to handle new threats, so have the groups trying to infiltrate. modern proxy groups do not use guns, they infiltrate hearts and minds of populace from within.

LTTE as an organization was crushed. But there ideology is still popular among the Tamil masses because LTTE's political arm which is the TNA (Tamil National Alliance) is not prosecuted for their crimes against the state. I think that's what we've got all muddled up. Sri Lankan central government couldn't counter the elamist ideology among the Tamils yet. It is the key for political settlement in Sri Lanka.

The willingness for integration must come from Tamils. It can't be forced on them and us simply by we Sinhalese accepting their every demand. There should be a meaningful compromise.

No, I don't think US is trying to mess with Sri Lanka on the port deal. This is merely a plea from the LTTE groups living abroad to revive their former terra organization. AFAIK these very same people had given full support for the Hillary during the last presidential election by creating front group called "Tamils for Hilary". Once they realized Hillary was lost they changed the name of the group to "Tamils for Trump".

I sincerely hope that following the victory of Trump, the US outlook on Sri Lanka will change for better.
