Rave party issue rocks Karnataka legislature.

A day after the Karnataka government was rapped for allegedly promoting obscenity on the sacred St Mary's Island off the coast of the holy town Udupi, the issue rocked the Karnataka legislature with elected representatives demanding action against the organisers of 'Spring Zouk 2012', including government officials.

Buckling under pressure, the state government ordered a probe by the divisional commissioner into the 'international festival' in which two to three couples (international tourists) allegedly had sex on the island during the party in full public view.

Congress MLAs U. T. Khader and Gopal Bhandary, who raised the issue in the assembly, alleged that the government was trying to cover up the incident.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said the government had turned a blind eye to the violations on the sacred island. "That this incident took place under the eyes of the law enforcement agencies is shameful. How can the government organise rave parties? The government should immediately initiate action against the erring officers," he said.

But chief minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda maintained that the government was sincere in its efforts to ascertain the truth about the incident. "I have seen the visuals of Spring Zouk 2012 on news channels. I feel some of them crossed the limits. I am awaiting a detailed report from the officials concerned. We will not spare anybody," Gowda said.

Apparently, even yesterday the same discussion was on in the assembly that gave a couple of ministers enough high to watch porn in the assembly!!

BJP government is so corrupt in Karnataka that this does not even matter. Illegal mining, land scams, this useless government. I am waiting for the day when someone like SM Krishna takes the position as the top dog of Karnataka.

You criticise the ruling government in Karnataka as corrupt and scam tainted and in the same breath ask for "someone like SM Krishna" to takeover. The mind boggles.

@Oracle, SM Krishna along with Dharam Singh and Kumaraswamy has been accused in illegal mining. SM Krishna was accused of de-reservation of 11,620 sq km of forest land for mining when he was the Karnataka chief minister during 1999-2004.

Supreme Court has stayed the proceedings by Karnataka Lokayukta Police as they held the cabinet responsible for the decision rather than SM Krishna per se. An apex court bench of Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra stayed the probe after senior counsel K K Venugopal told the court that a decision to de-reserve the forest land was taken by the cabinet and an individual could not be targeted for that.

In case of Congress CMs it is the cabinet that takes the decision hence not liable to be tried by Lokayukta, in case of non-Congress CM he is sent to jail even as trial is going on. Congress CM Digambar Kamath of Goa has been indicted in illegal iron ore mining, yet I see no action being taken.

Governor Bharadwaj has been hounding the BJP government from the day one one issue or the other. Center has been trying to remove this government by hook or crook. Let us see what happens if early polls are announced or assembly elections take place in Dec as scheduled.

BJP has done close to nothing in terms of development.

Bangalore is known as the Silicon Valley of India, SM Krishna did a lot in terms of development of the IT sector, adding infrastructure, speeding up projects. The IT czars are fed up of the present government of Karnataka.

Congress demands Karnataka CM’s resignation over porn video row

Congress demands Karnataka CM’s resignation over porn video row
    PTI

Opposition Congress in Karnataka today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda-led BJP government on moral grounds in the wake of three of its ministers being caught watching porn video clippings in the state assembly.

“The BJP has several tainted ministers. There are people facing corruption charges and also criminal charges. They have no right to continue in power. Sadananda Gowda government should resign immediately,” Opposition Congress leader in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah, told reporters here. “It is better to go before the people and seek fresh mandate,” he demanded.

He said the Congress would move a resolution in the state assembly seeking suspension of three BJP MLAs — Laxman Savadi, C.C. Patil and Krishna Palemar — who resigned from the ministry earlier today. They would also demand their disqualification from assembly membership, he said. The Congress members have demanded a debate on the issue in the Upper House.

I lived in Bangalore during Krishna and Kumaraswamy tenures. I am fully aware of Krishna's contributions to Bangalore infrastructure both good and bad. I am also aware of the government being rightly accused of doing nothing for regions beyond Bangalore. There were no less scams and scandals then either.

That said his tenure was far better than H.D. Kumaraswamy's.

ND Tiwari in race for Uttarakhand CM

    Press Trust of India

Dehradun: Ahead of the January 30 assembly polls in Uttarakhand, Congress veteran ND Tiwari on Wednesday jumped into the race of chief ministerial post in the event of his party returning to power. "For nearly one-two years, I can hold the post (of chief minister)", Tiwari told reporters at Ramnagar assembly constituency in Kumaon region where he is campaigning for Amrita Rawat, wife of Congress leader Satpal Maharaj.

Tiwari was replying to questions from reporters whether he would like to become the chief minister in case Congress comes to power in the state. After remaining in hibernation for a couple of years in the wake of the Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhavan sex scandal, Tiwari recently came out openly in support of a couple of Congress candidates in the state.

Tiwari is actively campaigning for his nephew Manish Tiwari from Gadarpur, his close associate Indira Hridayesh from Haldwani and others. Tiwari was instrumental in getting ticket for Manish along with his OSD Aryendra Sharam despite opposition by a section of Congress leaders.

Soon after the Raj Bhavan sex scandal following which he was forced to quit the gubernatorial post, Tiwari had kept a distance from politics as well as Congress party. He had occasionally appeared in some public functions of ruling BJP.

When contacted, Surendra Kumar, a state Congress spokesman acknowledged the achievements of Tiwari saying he "had always been a pillar of strength for the party".

Karnataka has been the worst governed state in the country. These are the CM's Karnataka had since 1990. None of them have done squat and everyone of them has incresead their wealth several fold during their tenure.

    M. Veerappa Moily

    D. V. Sadananda Gowda

We have to wait to see what our current CM is capable of but from what has been evident thus far, he is useless.

Hmmm I dont think Kar has done that badly, which is why we have migrants from other states coming into our state rather than Kannadigas migrating to other states ...

Karnataka ranks second in UPA’s 20-point programme
    08 November 2010 02:03

Nov. 7: Despite the many setbacks the ruling BJP had to face in the past month and the brickbats from Opposition parties, there’s finally some cheer for them. Karnataka has been ranked second in the overall performance under the Twenty Point programme for the first quarter of the current fiscal —April to July 2010. In the new ratings released by the ministry of statistics and programme.

Follow Karnataka's footsteps: Centre to states
    TNN Sep 8, 2010, 12.13am IST

BANGALORE: Encouraged by Karnataka's success in checking power theft over the last three years, the Centre has now exhorted other states to emulate the methodologies adopted by power-starved Karnataka.

The four-level strategies adopted by Karnataka to check power theft and pilferage have resulted in record reduction of transmission and distribution losses. Other states should take a leaf out of Karnataka's enforcement measures, stated a recent circular from the Union power ministry which was circulated to all states.

I think there are far more serious issues for the legislators to debate. Land scams, crying need for infrastructure in Bangalore, illegal mining, bad agricultural output in drought-prone regions of North Karnataka... the list is endless.

Ok, so some foreign couples had public sex on some island somewhere. Really, is this the biggest issue there is to debate? Why are the legislators getting so hot and bothered about it, to the extent of making it headline news?

A little less focus on "morality" and more focus on tangible problems and solutions, would be very much welcome.

Personally I don't care if some rave parties or even beach sex happened in some isolated place.

    There are more important issues.

Karnataka politics needs some strong state leader and strong state party.
The big two "national" parties are not much different from each other and can never consolidate the entire political spectrum in the state.
Both will keep coming to power in an alternating manner and infact complement each other.

S.Bangarappa :- useless character who didn't do anything but make money for himself.
    M. Veerappa Moily:- was ok as far as his own money making is concerned but he was not visionary.
    H.D. Deve Gowda :-
    J. H. Patel :- more famous for his statement "wine and women are my weakness". His time was the one where bangalore went back 10 years in development.
    S. M. Krishna :- was visionary enough and was at one time competing with chandrababu naidu. His family did come up. Most famous is coffee day.
    Dharam Singh:- bloody joke.
    H. D. Kumaraswamy:- he didn't sleep in public like his father. He didn't get too much time but still a crook.
    B. S. Yeddyurappa:- he was a revelation, for all the wrong reasons. I didn't know he was such a rascal and a hard headed character.
    D. V. Sadananda Gowda :- he has just started but I don't expect him to be any good.

Worse still I dont see a single good leader in the state. Ananth Kumar has long aspired but he is someone who after years of being MP from my area has done nothing. Have a look at the roads around his office/house in basavanagudi and you will know he is good for nothing.

Mayfair/parijataka - I understand your point. I never said there was no corruption. But Bangalore did see a lot of development during SM Krishna's tenure. As a citizen, I would cheer if a politician does work according to my expectation. This is why I would vote for.
