Rahul to start LS campaign from Gujarat on Saturday - The Times of India
    TNN | Feb 6, 2014, 03.05 AM IST

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will kick-start the party's campaign from Gujarat on Saturday, crossing swords with BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Rahul will address a rally in Bardoli, associated with Sardar Patel. This being the first rally after the rout in assembly elections in December, it is being seen as the start of the Congress campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

While Rahul will visit Ranchi on Friday, he is also likely to tour Odisha soon. However, a public rally is slated only in Gujarat. This appears a Congress attempt to make a high impact start to the party's campaign given that Modi is going around the country attacking Congress.

I wonder what Rahul ji can say to voters of Gujarat who have given thumbs down to Congress for almost 2 decades now - the last Congress CM of Gujarat was in 1996-97 I think.

Rahul disapproves of personal attacks on Opp leaders

New Delhi, Feb 6, 2014, PTI:
Rahul Gandhi today disapproved of personal attacks on Opposition leaders, indicating that the Congress leadership was not happy with Mani Shankar Aiyar's recent 'chaiwala' jibe at BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. PTI File Photo

Rahul Gandhi today disapproved of personal attacks on Opposition leaders, indicating that the Congress leadership was not happy with Mani Shankar Aiyar's recent "chaiwala" jibe at BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"It is wrong to make personal attacks on opposition," the Congress Vice President told a meeting of party spokespersons called to elicit suggestions on how best to get the message of Congress across to people in the coming Lok Sabha elections. He, however, did not name Aiyar.

Rahul made the remark after party MP Bhalchandra Mungekar said that remarks like denigrating the "chaiwala" (tea seller) will not do the party any good. "Do not denigrate chaiwala. Such comments are unnecessary and they may derail the debate," Mungekar, who is one of the TV panelists of the party, said.

Rahul's remark is significant given the fact that BJP is exploiting Aiyar's jibe at Modi to the hilt to reach out to voters. It has announced the launch of a campaign that will allow people to engage with Modi over a cup of tea.

At the January 17 AICC meeting here, Aiyar had said that Modi could not become Prime Minister but could certainly serve tea at the meeting. Party General Secretary Ajay Maken had disapproved of the remark soon after.

Rahul said that in the face of a constant negative campaign, Congress spokespersons are doing a tremendous job. He also sought suggestions from them on the campaign theme. The meeting saw party leaders underlining the need to effectively expose the Opposition by pointing out deficiencies in their claims backed with data.

Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has been made one of the senior spokespersons, underlined the need to focus on the regional media instead of the national media to reach out to people. Maken, who is in charge of the AICC Media department, detailed the steps taken to ensure an effective strategy to get the party's message across.

The controversy over Janardhan Dwivedi's remarks on reservation also figured at the meeting with one leader saying when such out of turn comments are made they are corrected and sometimes even the Congress president has to issue a statement.

Headlines for Rahul always seems mild to me, editors always find or create context in articles related to him while it's totally opposite for other leaders especially Modi.

Rahul Gandhi interacts with tribal women in Jharkhand | NDTV.com

    Election 2014 | Press Trust of India | Updated: February 07, 2014 14:37 IST

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today held an interaction with tribal women in Jharkhand who urged him that they should get proper representation in Parliament and Assembly elections.

"Women should get proper representation in Parliament and Assembly elections," a woman told reporters after the interaction at a hotel in Ranchi.

"All of us also told Rahul that we would like to see him as the Prime Minister," a woman told reporters after the interaction.

Another woman said, "We told him about protection of women's rights from the grassroots level."

She quoted Rahul as saying women should come forward in politics in large numbers.

"Rahul also said Congress has old ties with tribals, who have made a large contribution to development programmes," she said.

"Food Security Act will also benefit the tribals," said another woman quoting him.

She said that Rahul was urged to ensure strict implementation of the Panchayat Raj Act (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) in Jharkhand.

LJP to Congress: Give us 12 seats or else... - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party may go it alone or weigh other options if it is not given a "respectable" number of seats by the Congress, threatening to throw off gear the impending alliance between Congress, LJP and RJD for the 2014 polls in Bihar.

Sources in the party said it would wait for a word on this from Congress till February 12 following which it will take a decision on the future course of action. "(Ram Vilas) Paswanji met Sonia Gandhi on January 31 and she had promised to sort out the seat sharing issue within 10-12 days. We want to wait and watch. We are confident Congress will give LJP the respect due to it. Congress is a national party, it can chose to fight on as more or less seats as it wants. We are regional party. It matters much more to us, how many seats we are getting. If we are not given a respectable number of seats, we will see if we need to fight all seats or have some other alliance," said a senior party leader.

He added that LJP has asked for 10-12 seats and hopes Congress will respect the demand. The deadlock has arisen after RJD said it would not part with any seat from its share and asked Congress to accommodate LJP. Congress itself is in talks to improve its share of 11 seats given by RJD and has not been willing to give more than four seats to LJP.

Sources, however, said that LJP may settle for 6-7 seats after negotiations given its miserable performance in the last Lok Sabha elections when it contested 12 seats and lost all. It also has very few alliance options given that JDU has decided not to go with the Congress where as LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan has openly affirmed his pact with the Congress despite being cross with the RJD.

Going alone has proved even more disastrous as in2009 the alliance partners chose to fight on all seats and were virtually trounced. However, the alliance would accommodate some of LJP's pride even though Paswan controls only 5% of votes (of Dusadhs). Paswan new-found importance is in his secular image which would help the alliance consolidate Muslim votes in its favour in the face Narendra Modi's PM candidacy.

Rahul Gandhi's dig at Modi: Gujarat leaders don't read history - The Times of India

BARDOLI, GUJARAT: Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in his home state of Gujarat, saying he represents RSS ideology which has killed Mahatma Gandhi.

He also attacked Modi for construction of a massive statue of Sardar Patel, saying the 'Iron Man' had described the RSS ideology as "poisonous" and had represented Congress thought which Modi wants to erase from the country.

In an attempt at damage control over the 'chai wala' barb by his party colleague Mani Shankar Aiyar against Modi, the Congress vice president said people from all professions, including tea vendors should be respected except those who make fool of others.

Addressing a public meeting here, the Congress leader targeted Modi's governance and sought to highlight the problems being faced by various sections, including farmers, in the state.

Attacking Modi's ideology, he said, "You have been in RSS all your life... Who killed Mahatma? It was RSS ideology which killed him. After his death Sardar Patel had proposed to ban RSS".

"What Patel and Mahatma said neither do you have any understanding nor have read them. But you want to construct a statue. Sardar had said RSS was a poisonous ideology which will destroy the country's soul."

Gandhi said people from all professions should be respected.

"People are involved in various professions. Some make tea, others drive taxi, some are engaged in farming. We have to respect all of them. We have to respect the tea vendor, the labourer and the farmer. But those who make fool (ullu) of others, should not be respected," he said. The comment assumes significance as it comes two days after he told Congress spokespersons to desist from making personal attacks on any political leader.

Rahul in full flow, sounds like a ton of metal being pulled over small pebbles
He screeches & screams and frequently uses an Indian euphemism " Bhaiyya"
His angst is put on, & the connect with the audience superficial.
Rahul Baba surely needs to go to an expert & hone his oratorical skill, otherwise it is a downward slide for sure!!
