French Prime Minister Francois Fillon has told Brazilian media that he was confident of selling Rafale fighter jets to Brazil.
Brazil is to buy 36 multi-role fighter jets. The Rafale is up against Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet and Saab’s Gripen.
“We are confident because we believe that the French offer has the best possible transfer of technology, without equivalent,” Fillon said.

He is in Brazil for the next three days to promote the aircraft, as well as dealing with other issues.
The outcome of the aircraft competition could potentially be significant for Rafale’s manufacturer Dassault. French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet has told the French publication, Le Monde, that unless the Rafale makes foreign sales the government will have to stop funding its production.

They really need to reduce the price tag for what they're selling if they hope to defeat Gripen and F/A-18 SH in the competition. The price-tag is atrocious; that too without additional special modifications (avionics, EW suit, AESA, engine thrust upgrade etc) which costs even more. Typhoon and Rafale could have a great potential if they were not so impossibly expensive for a 4.5 Generation jet category.

Rafale, the fighter that nobody wants. India might just buy it.

Looking good for Rafale with this news...

Thales To Provide Embraer KC-390 With Navigation System

Paris — Thales signed with Embraer a first contract for a new laser-based inertial navigation system, dubbed high performance inertial reference system, for the KC-390 military transport plane for an undisclosed amount, Thales Senior Vice President Michel Mathieu said May 4.

The same technology has been used in another inertial navigation system, Chief Executive Luc Vigneron told journalists. No details were available for the other navigation system.

Embraer chose Thales after a competition that pitched the French company against a small, unnamed American equipment company.

“We’re very proud to have won this competition. It was very, very tough,” said Mathieu, head of the avionics division.

Embraer traditionally worked with the American competitor, he said.

Looks like we are getting KC-390s.
