It will be utter stupidity to wait for a nuclear attack from our enemy's side, if we lose even 1 or 2 cities in doing so then what is the use of being a nuclear power ? Specially when we are facing the religiously mad fidayeen forces of Pakistan who have shown their ambitions to attack with at least 80 nukes at once!? Wouldn't it be equal to commiting suicide ? Hence our policy is definitely no NFU as saya pointed out.

Actually India's stand that they will wipe out the nation which uses nukes against India makes it clear to Pakistan that they must fire all their nukes in one go or they will not have anybody left to fire the left over nukes. So India must always have a large nuke force ready and deployed for pre-emptive strikes to eliminate the threat of nuke strike.

THE game will be played through the nuclear triad,by India

Marrying the nuclear warhead to the missile on orders of the controlling authority will be the crunch issue,
I am sure these scenarios have been war gamed. What we need is prior info of their arming the nukes. ( to be continued)

What happens if we are faced with a massive annihilation by 120 nukes v/s say an attack by 20-30 nukes??

If we are faced with an inevitable nuclear conflict, do we take all their hits before counter attacking and in the process get destroyed, or do we strike first, and reduce the number of nukes attacking us by 70-80%?
You sound like a movie character.

General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, we are rapidly approaching a moment of truth both for ourselves as human beings and for the life of our nation. Now, truth is not always a pleasant thing. But it is necessary now to make a choice, to choose between two admittedly regrettable, but nevertheless *distinguishable*, postwar environments: one where you got twenty million people killed, and the other where you got a hundred and fifty million people killed.
President Merkin Muffley: You're talking about mass murder, General, not war!
General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.

On January 4, 2003, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) constituted the Political Council and the Executive Council of the NCA. The Executive Council, chaired by National Security Advisor (NSA) gives the inputs to the Political Council, which authorises a nuclear attack when deemed necessary. The Political Council is chaired by the Prime Minister, and advised by the Executive Council, chaired by the NSA. While the Political Council is the "sole body" which can authorise the use of nuclear weapons, the SFC is tasked with the actual firing of the nukes.

It is the responsibility of the Strategic Forces Command to operationalize the directives of the NCA under the leadership of a Commander-in-Chief who is a three-star rank officer. It will have the sole responsibility of initiating the process of delivering nuclear weapons and warheads, after acquiring explicit approval from the NCA. The exact selection of the target area shall be decided by the SFC through a calibrated, cumulative process involving various levels of decision-making, and with formal approval by the NCA.

Keeping the nuclear doctrine clear is a deterrent in itself, countries armed with nuclear weapons as per data available do not go to war. use of proxies is what is resorted to . Americans & Russians have never gone to war against each other despite grave provocation.

Our conventional forces need to be leaner, meaner & better trained & equipped fighting machines.
