    jolly good detailed article - the bottom line is whether the indian govt will get going and fast too in regards to china developments or whether they will moot the idea for years and get caught in all the usual wrangling while china simple moves forward

    Well, this article starts with the recent push that the foreign defence industries are making in India and lobbying to increase the controlling stake to 49% and probably more.

    While, I agree that India should enter into a JV, it should not be like the Maruti-Suzuki story, but more like Tata Motors story. While entering into a JV with foreign manufacturers will be good in the short run, we have to ensure that we don't end up being a spare parts nuts manufacturer for the world. The JV should later be able to innovate later on after bootstrapping itself with collaboration from the defence industries in the west, creating a world class military industrial complex in India.
