Are there any plan to acquire or build more tankers? Currently IN has 4 but if they plan to have 3 AC's and 4 LHD's (Mistrals) they will need atleast 2 more.

Given that the adversary only has a floating table without aircrafts:rofl: or a navy capable of venturing 100 km from its shore 10 years will be fine.

INS Satpura (F-48), along with INS Shivalik and the three existing Project 15 Delhi-class DDGs, three Project 16 Godavari-class FFGs and three Project 16A Brahmaputra-class FFGs have all been fitted with the 1000Xi long-range acoustic hailing device built by US-based LRAD Corp. In addition, INS Satpura comes equipped with the BEL-built and DRDO designed Ellora ESM/EW suite, plus the DRDO-developed and OFB-built Kavach offboard countermeasures dispensing system, which makes use of spin-stabilised ammunition (including chaff and infra-red payloads) for defence against sea-skimming anti-ship cruise missiles. The ammunition, customised for use by Wallop Defence Systems Ltd India, includes seduction, confusion and distraction spin-stabilised chaff rockets and infra-red decoys operating in the 3-5 micron and 8-14 micron wavebands, all configured to meet the Indian Navy's operational requirements. For providing over-the-horizon targetting for the eight on-board Novator JSC-built 3M54E Klub-N supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles (with 220km-range), INS Satpura will have on board a Ka-31 helicopter, along with a SA.316B Alouette III (Chetak) light helicopter for search-and-rescue.

First ships of P-15A Kolkata & P-28 Kamorta classes will be inducted

First ships of P-15A Kolkata & P-28 Kamorta classes will be inducted into Indian Navy - Financial Express

In the coming months, first ships of P-15A, Kolkata class, and P-28, Kamorta, will be inducted into the Indian Navy apart from the additional P-8I and Advance jet trainer aircraft.

Inaugurating the Naval Commanders' Conference, defence minister AK Antony said, "over the last six months the Navy has inducted an impressive range of platforms, including the P-8I aircraft and Goa Shipyard built Offshore Patrol Vessel."

Complimenting the Indian Navy for the commissioning of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, the minister said, coupled with the MiG 29K aircraft, the carrier has the potential to become a force multiplier in enhancing the combat capability of the Navy.

He said the launch of indigenous aircraft carrier in August this year has placed India in a select group of six nations who can design and operate aircraft carriers. "The fact that all 45 naval ships presently under construction are being built in India is an ample proof of our indigenous ship building capability", he said.

The minister said "a major boost to our strategic deterrence capability was the achievement of criticality of the reactor on board Arihant. Once we reach the next milestone: Commencement of sea trails of the submarine, it would make India only the sixth nation in the world to build and operate nuclear-powered submarines."

Re: Navy seals 45,000-cr deal: seven warships

Navy seals 45,000-cr deal: seven warships

India has cleared its largest ever indigenous defence contract worth Rs 45,000 crore to manufacture seven advanced stealth frigates for the Navy at shipyards in Kolkata and Mumbai.
The P17A warship project, which will be India's most advanced and stealthy frigates, has been cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Friday.
Sources said that brushing aside a request by the Navy that two of the indigenously designed frigates may be manufactured abroad, the DAC has decided that all seven warships will be manufactured in India by the Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai (MDL) and the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
The Defence Ministry has allocated a budget of Rs 45,000 crore for the project and the work will be divided between the two shipyards. The P17A frigates will be even more advanced than the P17 Shivalik class warships that are currently being inducted by the Navy.
This will also be the first time that the two shipyards will construct warships in the modern way of modular manufacturing. The frigates will be put together using 300-ton blocks that will be fitted together, similar to the construction style being used to manufacture the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) in Kochi.
This very concept of modular manufacturing had caused a divide between the Navy and the two shipyards with the former insisting that two ships be manufactured abroad so that Indian ship workers could absorb the required technology.
In 2006, the Navy had even issued a Request for Information (RFI) a prerequisite to a tender to international ship manufacturers including French DCNS, Italian Fincantieri, American firms Lockheed Martin and Northrop Gruman besides shipyards in Russia and Korea to manufacture the frigates. However, the two Indian shipyards had stood firm on their stand that all the frigates could be manufactured indigenously and there was no need to outsource even one of the warships. One argument put forward was that it would not be wise to manufacture the ship abroad as it incorporated advanced indigenously developed stealth features.

With the Defence Ministry taking the final call on the matter, the frigates will be manufactured in India and are expected to be inducted by 2021. The project is expected to start by 2011 when both GRSE and MDL complete an upgrade that will allow them to undertake modular construction. The first ship is expected to be delivered 3-4 years after work starts.

Destroyers and Frigates are two different class of ships intended for different roles. Please do not compare a destroyer with a Frigate.
what is difference between destroyer and frigate.
