Pranab Mukherjee's son to contest Jangipur Lok Sabha by-election on October 10
15 Sep, 2012, 1856 hrs IST , tomal sen gupta , ET Bureau AICC chief Sonia Gandhi has cleared the candidature of Abhijit Mukherjee, son of the President Pranab Mukherjee for the Jangipur Lok Sabha by-elections which will take place on October 10.
KOLKATA: AICC chief Sonia Gandhi has cleared the candidature of Abhijit Mukherjee, son of the President Pranab Mukherjee for the Jangipur Lok Sabha by-elections which will take place on October10.
Jangipur Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Pranab Mukherjee resigned from the Lok Sabha to contest the presidential elections. Election Commission has announced the by-elections in Jangipur on October 10 and Pranab's son Abhijit will contest the seat vacated by his father.
Jangipur falls under Murshidabad district which is a Congress stronghold. All the three Lok Sabha seats from the district were won by the Congress during the Lok Sabha elections held in 2009. Mukherjee had won Jangipur twice in 2004 and 2009. Now Congress has decided to field hisson Abhijit who is a sitting Congress MLA from Nalhati assembly seat in Birbhum district.
But the Trinamool Congress has put up one condition before the Congress to support Abhijit at the Jangipur Lok Sabha by-polls. It is learnt that Trinamool Congress has sent a filler to the Congress saying that it will support Abhijit at Jangipur and instead, Trinamool Congress wants the Nalhati assembly seat. Nalhati will go for a by-election once Abhijit wins the Jangipur Lok Sabha by-elections.
It is learnt that Trinamool Congress wants to contest and win the Nalhati assembly seat. The Congress leaders here are upset with Trinamool's demand for Nalhati. "Nalhati is our seat. Abhijit won the seat during the assembly elections held last year.Jangipur Lok Sabha too is our seat as Pranab Mukherjee won the seat twice in 2004 and 2009. How can Trinamool Congress asks us to sacrifice Nalhati seat for ensuring our victory at Jangipur lok sabha. In fact, by demanding Nalhati in lieu of giving support to us at Jangipur, Trinamool Congress, infact, wants to reduce our strength in the state Assembly. We are unhappy with such kind of a demand which we feel is unjust," said West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) general secretary Debabrata Bose on Saturday.
Many in state Congress circles believe that by demanding the Nalhati seat instead of providingsupport to them at Jangipur, Trinamool Congress in fact wants to put pressure on the Congress MP and party's Murshidabad district secretary Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who is a known anti-Mamata Congress leader. "We might find it hard to retain the Jangipur lok sabha seat once Trinamool Congress fields its candidate. Trinamool is also well aware of this and trying to mount pressure on the state Congress leadership to blunt Chowdhury's criticism of Mamata Banerjee. On the other hand, they also want to increase their strength in the state Assembly by contesting the Nalhati seat," said a senior state Congress leader.
Bose, however, said that"Trinamool Congress is making all efforts to weaken the Congress in West Bengal before 2014 Lok Sabha elections and their demand for Nalhati seat has been made in this direction."

I think congress will be win in jangipur.
But they could lose nalhati assembly seat if tmc contest.
If tmc, congress both contest in jangipur loksabha, nalhati assembly than it will be cpim who will win in both case due to divison of anti left vote

But congress become weaker day by day in bengal.
even 3-4 years ago congress has presence in jalpaiguri, coochbehar, uttar and dakshin dinajpur, malda, murshidabad, barasat, bashirhat, birbhum, barasat, diamomd harbour, kolkata port, tribal belt of bankura, purulia, bardhman.
today they lost dominance in all area except malda, murshidabad, uttar dinajpur.
all those area now control by tmc.
nowadays even in uttar dinajpur tmc makes progress.
mamta tries hard and soul to break congress organisation in those area.
the good for nothing leader of west bengal congress like pradip bhattacharjee, manas, abdul manan and damn care attitude of aicc about west bengal congress will lead congress to become a non player even in their last strong hold within 10years.
even wining 10assembly seat and 2 loksabha seat from west bengal would be difficult for congress within 10years.
so if west bengal congress does not react quickly i am afraid to say the political future
    of abhijit mukherjee is black

Not just that also Daddy's old Bungalow 13 Talkatora Road also awaits him if he wins. Pranab Da has requested that his lucky house to be allotted to his son, so that it remains in the family.

Guess what.......BJP did tremendously well in Muslim majority constituency of Jangipur .......The reasons are obvious...."Sudhangshu Biswas of BJP bagged 85, 887 votes – something beyond imagination in a Muslim-majority district like Murshidabad"

Muslim parties almost spoiled Prez son’s party - India - DNA
