Prime Minister Manmohan Singh concentrated on the policies of his government and the compulsions that led to the recent tough decisions.
He emphatically said that challenges like unemployment and poverty could not be faced without high economic growth.........

Singh said: “Misleading people on decisions like FDI in retail was either an outcome of poor understanding or a deliberate ploy.“

The Prime Minister cautioned against expenses being disproportionately higher than income, arguing that India would have to face dangerous consequences if the subsidy bill was not cut drastically.

Speaking this language in front of a predominantly rural crowd, made mostly of aam aadmi who have always been the key electoral target, needs some courage and the Congress leadership appears to have decided to stay the course in the face of adversity.

The Ramlila show by the Congress is a fightback and will go a long way in connecting with the people which the PM has not been able to do so far.

The BJP commented, as per the article, that it was false bravado, the Congress having failed on the financial front and trying to give themselves clean chit and yet rejoicing in the misery of the common man.

Arvind Kejriwal was of the view that the Congress had pushed the country into a ditch but was now making a hue and cry about saving the nation.

Notwithstanding that, the PM has spoken his mind.
