Passengers expel Rehman Malik, PML-N MNA from flight over delay

KARACHI: A video clip showing irate airline passengers expel Senator Rehman Malik and another lawmaker for what appears to be a delay of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight has gone viral on the internet.

After facing what they said was a delay of two and a half hours, passengers of an Islamabad-bound PIA flight from Karachi, barred Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Rehman Malik and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Wakwani from boarding the aircraft. The two were accused of holding the plane back while other passengers waited for hours.

However, PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar speaking to Dawn said that the delay in the flight was due to a technical issue and not the fault of Rehman Malik.

“PIA does not promote VIP culture… but this flight was delayed an hour and 30 minutes due to a technical reason,” Tajwar said. “The delay had been conveyed to passengers via SMS. Some passengers who had given the contact details of their travel agent may not have been conveyed the message by their agents.”

He added that the plane took off at 8.55PM. “The flight was not delayed because of Rehman Malik,” Tajwar said. “We are looking into what actually happened but after the delay, the flight departed when it was meant to.”

Angry passengers show lawmakers the door
"We have taken it for too long... 68 years... are we going to take it for another 68 years?" passengers can be heard saying.

As Malik approached the jetway that connects the terminal to the aircraft, furious passengers are heard saying, "Malik sahab, sorry. You should go back. You should apologise to these passengers. You should be ashamed of yourself... 250 passengers have suffered because of you. It is your fault, sir."

The clip uploaded to video-sharing site Dailymotion early Tuesday shows passengers booing and ridiculing the lawmakers as they approach the aircraft to board. Crew members joined angry passengers in creating a din, which forced the two legislators away from the aircraft amid chants and slogans.

"Malik sahab, you are not a minister any more. And even if you are, we don't care... anymore."

PIA's flight PK-370 was scheduled to depart from Karachi's Jinnah International Airport at 7PM but passengers say it was delayed by more than two and a half hours.

Dr Ramesh Kumar Wakwani appeared to be accompanying Rehman Malik, and was also taken off the aircraft.

The flight departed for its destination without the two lawmakers.

Not responsible for delay: Rehman Malik
Hours after the video clip made the rounds on social media, former interior minister Rehman Malik took to Twitter to clarify his position.

    Merged.

This should also happen in India.

There are instances of VIPs delaying flights.

The three videos have gone viral eversince the news broke out yesterday. FB, tweet, Pakistani fora, youtube and the media is reporting it and the VIP culture is again the talk of the day.

Few months ago no one would have botherd to stand up against the ex minister as it is business as usual. The media is linking it to the long marches in Islamabad. PTI/PAT have brought awareness to the common man and they are no longer affraid to stand up against injustice and abuse of power and authority.

This is good development and we hope to see more 'incidents' like this. Enough is enough!

The Pakistanis are totally fed up with the chaos and feudalism that prevails.

But it is only when the Army decides that privileges are not meant for any including themselves, will Pakistan change.

Is the Psk Army ready to shed its privileges or the privilege raj that prevails in Pakistan?

That said, the idiocy of Ministers and VIPs delaying flights is not unknown in India, either.

Fortunately, it is not our Army which dictates terms.

    But, are Indians ready?

Has Vadra been taken off the non frisking privilege?

And why was be given that privilege?

    Carrying Skylight money?

Feudals are the cancer of Pakistani society, some 22.000 feudal families control 90% of Pakistan's rural areas and about two third of the economy. The only way to clip their power is, as suggsted by PTI, to have electoral reforms. Stricter quafilication terms for politicians with positions as MP, MNA and Local Assemblies. Requirements based on merit and the introduction of CoI act which is already implemented in KPK for the first time in our history.
Conflict of Interest act prevents political leaders to be indulged in commercial, i.e. business activities during their tenure. Before joining national assembly, they must declare their financial assets and resign from their commercial appoitments.

Nawaz' Goon League as well as the PPP are obviously opposed to this bill as the feudals are their stronghold
In the rural areas. 84 ministers, MP and MNA's are directly
related to Nawaz and they all have their private enterprises. This is the real face of what Nawaz calls democracy in Pakistan.

@Neo is right, feudal lords cannot be thrown out.

They are as entrenched in Pak politics as is the Army.

But Pakistan will rise and one day will throw all out and the people will be their own masters.

Though not as difficult as it is in Pakistan, in India we have the same 'medicine' in the form of the Gandhis, who rule the roost and strangulate the Congress Party, even though the Congress do well when the keep away from the election scene, as has been displayed in this Bypoll.

Will anyone give Sachin Pilot the credit? Never.

Will the National Herald or whatever case where there appears to be a fraud ever see the light of justice, even though the justification given is laughable?

While the Vadra land deals appears open and shut, the Supreme Court has thrown out the PIL because of legal infirmities.

    That is life!

Mr @Ray as seen in the recent incidents happening in Islamabad, All the fuedal supporting and traditional pakistani political parties came to one statge and PTI and PAT who are against these Fuedal politics stood on another stage.
I feel in the long term PTI's, PAT's ideals will have some affect some degree of fuedal control will be forced to give away, although it is not possible to loosen the grip of power of these big businessmen completely. Some changes will happen in the political scenario of Pakistan for sure.

India, USA anywhere in the world these big businessmen control media, policies etc...etc...

PTI and Qadri are not interested in Pakistan.

They are merely interested in seizing Power.

They are also self appointed Khalifs.

Interest about Pakistan's good died with Jinnah.

Yes indeed, Feudal's power can not be broken and they will continue to dominate the economy which is fine as long as we keep them away from entering the politics.
Right now the FDI is shared by the feudals; whatever little investment is coming our way, the sub contracts go to the feudals through their political representation and corruptuon network at the highest level. This is a major concern of the Chinese as well who want transparancy and accountablity mechanism to be set up before pumping $52 billion into our economy.

PTI/PAT want to empower the common man. Unlike PMLN and PPP, their supporters are the educated and moderate Pakistani middle and lower class citizens and their main priority is to improve the standard of their lives and build a better future for the generations to come.

Any country which wants to invest in other country to exploit resources favor Fuedals, since they will do what ever foreign country wants , they can be bribed.

Chinese or any power will support dictators when they want to exploit the countries, transparency is a factor they oppose, they can dig resources pay bribes and export to their country.

If that was the case, Musharraf would not have given Gwadar Port Trust to Singapore in 2007 but to China. Thar Coal reserves, world's fourth largest in size would be in China's hands and the trillion dollar copper and gold mines of Reqo-Dik and Saindak, world's fifth largest in size, would not be looking for international bidders for more than a decade. Uranium mines in D.I. Khan produce yellow cakes for local consumption while the new uranium discoveries in Gilgit Balitistan could make Pakistan an exporter. But China has none of these contracts.

Your views regarding the Chinese are biased agaon.
