Pantsyr-S air defense artillery system to be put to trial testing in Arctic
February 09, 19:37 UTC+4

NEW DELHI, February 09, /ITAR-TASS/. Tests of the Pantsyr-S surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system (NATO reporting name SA-22 Greyhound) will be conducted in the Arctic in the short term, the chief designer of the Tula KBP instrument design bureau told Itar-Tass on the sidelines of the Defexpo-2014 (the Land, Naval and Internal Homeland Security Systems Exhibition) that is underway in India.

Valery Slugin said that the trials scheduled for April and May will include firing tests of the three Pantsyr-S systems based on a standardised Russian version that can operate within the temperature ranges from -50 up to +50 degrees Celsius.

The surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery systems manufactured for export are standardised to withstand -20 up to +60 degrees Celsius and so they are not operable in the severe conditions of the Arctic climate.

Tests, including firing ones, will take place in the area of the New Siberian Islands.

The Pantsyr-S system was entered in the Russian Army's tables of equipment in the autumn of 2013.

In accordance with the Russian Defence Ministry, the systems deployed in the Arctic region will be coated in white and black spotted colors.
