Really? All the dancers/ ****** simply vanished isn't it? None from recent times have produced documentary on the constituents of erstwhile Hira Mandi right?
Everything banned in Pakistan comes out with a new name or as a nameless entity, why would Hira Mandi be any different.
BTW, I used Hira Mandi as a metaphor, I had stated that explicitly.
Though, I am ready to debate on Hira Mandi, if you so wish.
Heera Mundi served as a popular and official red light district of Lahore. Its brothels were famous and admired all over the country and most of Lollywoods actresses and dancers stated a carrier here before making the film industry. It was the only red light district in the city.
Then Zia came and started with his controvertial make over of the society and introduced islamic laws. He officially banned Heera Mundi causing the prostitution to seek business elsewhere. It spread all over Lahore and even posh areas as Defence, Cantt, Garden Town saw private villas turn into underground brothels.
There are still some brothels there but its has lost its charm and reputation. There are no propper kathak dance offering kothas nor highly sophisticated courtisanes speaking Luckhnavi Urdu.
The place is packed with hijras as well.
Large section of what used to be the heart of the Heera Mundi has become.a food street now.
