Terrorists storm police training college in Quetta, 25 injured

Extra police contingents deployed at the site, reports of hostages being taken —DawnNews
_________________________________________________________________________

Six terrorists have stormed a police training college in Quetta, prompting an operation by military and Frontier Constabulary forces to clear the premises which houses at least 200 police cadets.

The attackers are currently inside the building and are engaged in an intermittent exchange of fire with security forces, with reports of a hostage situation.

More than 100 cadets have been rescued from following an operation carried out by Special Service Group (SSG) commandoes.

Journalists on the ground report hearing two loud explosions, with one saying the ground shook when the explosion occurred inside the college. Gunfire and explosions can be heard from inside the centre, as the terrorists are said to be carrying AK-47s and grenades.

Two army helicopters are providing aerial surveillance of the area.

At least 25 people have been injured and are being treated at Civil Hospital, of which five sustained bullet wounds. One is said to be in critical condition.

The training college is situated on Sariab Road, which is considered to be one of the most sensitive areas of Quetta. Militants have been targeting security forces in the area for almost a decade.

The training college has come under attack in the past in 2008 and 2006, with attackers firing rockets into the college playground.

What we know so far
  • Five to six attackers attacked a police training college at 9:30pm
  • At least seven policemen injured
  • Operation underway, training centre cordoned off
  • Army and FC forces arrive at the scene
  • Emergency declared at Quetta hospitals
'Darkness hindering operation'
The attackers reportedly entered the complex through the front gate and the attack started at 9:30pm.

"Two attackers entered through the front gate," SSP Operations Mohammad Iqbal told DawnNews.

He added that initial investigations show that the terrorists are in the hostel, and as it is dark, there is trouble in identifying friend from foe.

“The injured are in stable condition, not seriously injured,” said the police official.

“It’s not clear how many people are inside right now; however, there has been no information about any suicide blast."

'The attackers were wearing shawls'
An eyewitness speaking to reporters after making a narrow escape said he saw three terrorists directly enter the barracks. "They started firing. We saw them and started screaming. We ran upstairs towards an exit."

He described the terrorists being covered in shawls.

The barracks and hostel blocks are situated deep inside the compound, making it hard to hear any sound of firing from the building.

The attackers have reportedly taken police personnel hostage. Around 200 cadets are said to be present in the centre's hostel.

Security beefed up at hospital
More than 20 injured cadets have been brought to Civil Hospital so far. Those in critical condition are now being shifted to CMH Quetta.

Extraordinary security arrangements have been made in and outside the hospital to prevent any untoward incident, especially in the wake of August 8 attack when a suicide attacker targeted the hospital.

Balochistan's Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti confirmed that terrorists have attacked the training centre.

“Our security forces have the capability to combat such attacks and threats,” the home minister told reporters.

He added that that recently there were 700 cadets present, but a batch passed out a few days ago.

“As of now, I do not have a confirmed figure on cadets present inside the centre.”

Senior law enforcement and army officials are present at the scene and are overseeing the operation. The Army SSG personnel have entered the police training centre and have taken administrative control of the operation.

It is expected that the area will be cleared in the next half an hour.

Extra contingents of security forces have been deployed at the spot and a cordon has been established.

An emergency has been declared in all government hospitals of the provincial capital, with the injured shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta and the Bolan Medical Complex.

The situation was tense in the area and people remained confined to their houses.

Militants have conducted attacks against security forces and national installations in Balochistan, which has been plagued by an insurgency and growing sectarian killings for more than a decade.

Polio worker gunned down in Khyber Agency

A member of anti-polio vaccination team worker was gunned down in Khyber Agency on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

According to official sources, the incident took place in Jamrud Tehsil where unknown gunmen fired shots on a polio vaccinator.

The injured worker, Fazal Amin, was shifted in critical condition to Hayatabad Medical Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.

Polio vaccination drives are underway across Pakistan, one of only two polio endemic countries left in the world.

Last year, the number of polio cases recorded in Pakistan soared to 306, the highest in 14 years. Pakistan has, however, witnessed a 62 per cent drop in polio cases in 2016, according to the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS).

Attempts to eradicate polio have been badly hit by militant attacks on immunisation teams due to claims propagated by the Taliban that the vaccination drive is a front for espionage or a conspiracy to sterilise Muslims.

These rumours have also made inhabitants of lesser-developed parts of the country more wary of allowing immunisation.

The Taliban stepped up attacks targeting polio immunisation teams after Pakistani doctor Shakeel Afridi was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency to set up a hepatitis immunisation drive as part of efforts to track down Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden.

Four killed in firing at religious gathering in Karachi's Nazimabad

Four family members were reportedly killed on Saturday and many others injured when unidentified assailants opened fire at a religious gathering in Karachi's Nazimabad area, DawnNews reported.

The dead and injured were taken to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

"Four men were brought dead to the hospital while a woman was brought with fatal injuries," said Dr Rohina Hassan, the additional police surgeon at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to details, the attackers entered the camp set up for majlis outside the residence of a police official and opened fire at the participants.

The majlis was being held in a street adjacent to the police station in Nazimabad no. 4 area beside Larosh restaurant.

Some eyewitnesses informed that no police official was deployed for the security of the majlis.

Sindh Police Chief AD Khawaja, however, said that, “Organisers did not inform the police about the majlis”.

Meanwhile, DawnNews reported that the deceased include three brothers.

The bodies were later moved from Rizvia to Khair-ul-Amal Imambargah in the limits of Samanabad police station, a police official said.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the firing incident at majlis in Nazimabad area of the metropolis.

He called Sindh Inspector General and asked him to set up blockades to arrest the culprits involved in the incident.

Earlier this month, a boy was killed and 15 other people, including women and children, were reportedly injured when an explosion occurred outside Dar-i-Abbas Imambargah in Karachi's Liaquatabad area.

Pak exposed :: Daesh-linked Ohio university attacker lived in Pakistan for 7 years - NYT
The family of Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a Somali student and child of a refugee, who wounded 11 people in a car-ramming and knife attack on an Ohio university campus, lived in Pakistan for seven years before moving to the US with his family in 2014, New York Times reported.

Federal law enforcement officials said that Artan was admitted to the US in 2014 as the child of a refugee ─ his mother ─ and before that he lived for seven years in Pakistan.

He was studying at Ohio State University as a third-year transfer student of logistics management.

Artan's shocking attack lasted just a few minutes ─ from a car careening into the crowd until the suspect was shot dead.

Artan was a “soldier” of the militant Islamic State group, a militant-linked news agency alleged Tuesday.

“The executor of the attack in the American state of Ohio is a soldier of the Islamic State,” the Amaq agency quoted an insider source as saying, according to a translation by the SITE monitoring group.

“He carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of international coalition countries,” Amaq claimed.

A post made by Artan and quoted by ABC television said, “I can't take it any more. America! Stop interfering with other countries, especially the Muslim Ummah. We are not weak. We are not weak, remember that.”

“If you want us Muslims to stop carrying (out) lone wolf attacks, then make peace,” the post reads.

“We will not let you sleep unless you give peace to the Muslims.”

Ohio is home to the second largest Somali community in the United States, numbering around 38,000 in in the Columbus area alone, according to the state's Somali community association.

The country's largest Somali community, in Minnesota, was rocked when one of its members stabbed 10 people at a mall in September. IS later claimed the attacker was a militant “soldier,” the same claim as for Artan

Blast in Pakistan as suicide bombers storm into Charsadda court, Taliban faction claims attack

Suicide bombers attacked a court complex in Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least four people, officials said, in the latest incident in a new surge of Islamist violence.

A spokesperson for the Pakistani Taliban’s Jamaat-ur-Ahrar faction claimed responsibility for the attack in the northwestern town of Charsadda.

The district administration said at least four people were killed. A witness told Reuters he had seen “many” dead bodies at the scene.

Town resident Mohammad Shah Baz told Reuters he was inside the judicial complex when the suicide bombers stormed it.

“I escaped towards the canteen and climbed the wall to save my life. But there were many people dead and injured,” he said.

District police chief Sohail Khalid said at least one of the attackers blew himself up and another opened fire at the main entrance of the court compound before they were shot and killed.

Jamaat-ur-Ahrar spokesperson Asad Mansoor claimed responsibility the attack in a message to journalists. He said fighting was still going on at the court.

Security forces and police personnel have cordoned off the area. Deputy commissioner of Charsadda said the area has put on high alert.

At least three attackers attempted to enter the court premises through the main gate. They opened fire and also threw hand grenades, prompting retaliatory fire by police and security forces deployed at the court.

Pakistan has been hit by a series of brazen suicide bombings last week that were claimed by various Islamic militant groups and that killed over 100 people.

Pakistani has stepped up security after a suicide attack claimed by the Islamic State left 81 dead at a crowded Sufi shrine. Thursday’s attack at the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in Sindh province was preceded by suicide attacks in Lahore and the northwest.

I believe it is the false flag operation by Pakistan ISI , Army after Raheel Sharif has lost all credibility and needs desperately to be on top of internal security matter
Hence what is the best way , to target innocents in name of terror strikes and again target the innocents in the name of counter Terrorist operation
Biggest Terrorist is Pak army and ISI

Seriously, these people have made a joke of humanity.
Not very long back, I faced a paki claiming that Pak reduced annual number of deaths in conflicts from 6200 to 4500 and India will be plagued insurgencies (India used to be worse than Pak, has brought it down actually from 6800 to in order of 500 something, still Pakistanis love to brag).
The same TTP which were national heroes & good terrorists of Pakistan today will become villains and @Neo will abusing India for a non existent reason sitting there in London.
