I feel Saudis will come to bailout Pakistan yet again, in return for even greater control over that country, this time perhaps military assets. Already Saudis have great leverage over Pakistan and with Sharif ensconced as premier why not? Saudis need Pakistan to outflank Iran. Nothing else matters to Arabs.

From ancient times Arabs are rabidly anti-Persian and it continues to today. It is something in the Arab blood, because at a time when Arabs were mere blood thirsty tribes killing each other and enslaving each other's women, Iran was a great empire, one of the greatest east of Egypt. In preIslamic times Persian owned most Arab lands and used to whip them at will. Arabs were able to get back at Persian only through the use of religious nationalism.

Even after the advent of Islam, however, Persia evolved as a Shia power house and it has helped sustain the Arab abhorrence of Persians.

In fact the history of West Asia is nothing but a continuing narrative of Arab-Persian enmity, written in blood.

Seriously Iran? With your Saudi masters watching over? Don't forget Saudis own you and all your leaders. Pakistani leaders can only make big noises about Iran friendship but do nothing concrete. Including that much touted pipeline to nowhere!

Do you know what? You need just Iran next door to resolve all your oil and gas needs. But you will never be able to buy stuff from Iran because Saudis have you by your balls.

Yeah, and you have your strategic assets against Iran in Jundullah warriors, don't you?

All just gas!!!

Are you kidding? No funds were allotted for the pipeline in this budget. And how do you think it will be completed?
In not budgeting for the Iranian pipeline, agreed to by his predecessor in February, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tactfully sidestepped a potential diplomatic clash with the United States, which had warned that the pipeline, if it were ever built, could lead to sanctions on Pakistan. The deal also was criticized as a trap for the new administration by Sharif's brother and de facto deputy, Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab province.

As late as June 10, Iranians were fuming about the delay on Pakistan's side over the gas pipeline.

Iran has offered to do everything including their company Tadbir funding the Pakistani side the line and even laying it.

Still why? When the hour is nearing... the knees are turning weak... but not dearth of bravado... the usual.

Tehran has expressed concern over delay in start of work on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and has pressed Islamabad to swiftly nominate entities for going ahead with the project.
According to sources, Iranian Deputy Minister of Petroleum in International and Commercial Affairs A Khaledi, in a letter on May 27, reminded Pakistan government that after a government-to-government cooperation agreement between the two countries, they were supposed to select entities to commence work on the gas pipeline immediately.

"Iran has already done this, but it is still waiting for any action from Pakistan side. Since time is too short, your prompt instruction in this regard is highly appreciated," the Iranian minister said.
Sources say a Pakistan team was also scheduled to visit Iran on June 3 to finalise the award of contract to Iranian firm Tadbir Energy that will lay Pakistan's part of the pipeline, but it put off the trip because of transition of power to a new government after general elections.
Tadbir will act as the lead contractor along with nominated local sub-contractor(s).

Following the agreement between the two sides in the second week of March, Pakistan has failed to pick a sub-contractor for laying the pipeline, which will bring Iranian gas. This has hampered the process of finalising the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract between Interstate Gas Systems and Tadbir Energy and a contract between the EPC contractor and sub-contractor.
Sources say the delay is a matter of worry for Iran that has made no secret of its concerns in previous meetings and drawn immediate attention of Pakistan authorities.
The cabinet has already waived Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules for the award of contract directly to Tadbir Energy.
Pakistan accepted Iran's offer to finance and construct the gas pipeline after Russia and China backed out of the project in the face of US pressure.
Iran designated Tadbir Energy to start off work on the project and was also extending a $500 million loan.
Tadbir faces no international sanctions and is controlled by the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, one of Iran's largest charitable groups. It will undertake all engineering, procurement and construction activities in the first phase of the pipeline, which will start from the border and cost around $250 million.

I had an exchange with Ambassador KC Singh who favors selling electricity to develop leverage. India can turn off in case there is terror attack or war. My point to him was this requirement of electricity is only temporary and not permanently till Chinese built Hydel and nuclear power plants come up as well as gas for Iran, Balochistan fire up their power plants. Also told him that when it comes to India, Pak can eat grass so even if you cut off electricity, it will not matter to Pakis. I told him that with all its levers, the US was not able to pull Pak and forced to talk with Taliban.End result of the conversation was that we agreed to disagree :D
wishful thinking on the part of the ambassador and therefore goi - probably they think they can score something also temporarily from packland - unless they have their own personal power company that is selling the power and so they personally benefit - that's probably what's about to happen
