KATHMANDU: Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rejected the use of a bulletproof car provided by rival India for next week's summit of South Asian leaders in Kathmandu, a Nepalese official said on Monday.

Sharif "will be bringing his own car... all other vehicles for (visiting) heads of countries have come from India", said foreign ministry spokesman Khaga Nath Adhikari.

Adhikari denied the move was a snub specifically targeted at India, whose tense ties with Pakistan have worsened since October over some of the worst cross-border firing in years.

"It's not that they have refused to use an Indian car... when the US president travels, he also brings his own car, it's not an issue," he told AFP.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit will see the leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan meet in Kathmandu on November 26 and 27.

Recent exchanges of fire across the de facto border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir, have killed at least 20 civilians and forced thousands to flee their homes.

The nuclear-armed neighbours, who have fought two wars over Kashmir, have traded blame for the upsurge in firing and shelling which started on October 6.

India called off peace talks in August after Pakistan first consulted Kashmiri separatists, a move some saw as a sign of a tougher stance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new NDA government.

i dont know how it will affect India, so technically it looks like pakis have gone bonkers and so retarded that they think that such refusals amounts to wining a war.

It is fine if he brings his own car.

But first, he has to see that it has enough petrol since Pakistan is cash strapped.

On top of that he must bring in his own fuel, most of the fuel sold in Nepal comes from Indian refineries.

How is this a snub? A real snub would be canceling the meeting(but will not).

yes cancelling the meet will be not good for the health of pakis, after the snub in UN pakis can ill afford to get isolated in SAARC. anyway it wont change the ground situation for pakis, they were beggars and they will be beggars.

Let him reject the complimentary transport. Let him take his own car. Let transporting that car over Indian airspace cost the Paki exchequer thousands of dollars, just like the lavish hotels he stays in NY, or the luxury shopping in Dubai and London. Good for us. While there are treaties that make international passenger aircraft traffic over our airspace zero-sum, those treaties don't cover extraordinary cargo.

Get lost Nawaz Sherriff. Get your own car for two days and just about twelve miles of total travel, especially for a country with empty coffers.

What car is it? Can anyone post a picture? Or at least name the brand?

It is a Tata Safari or something?

I don't understand how-spokesman Khaga Nath Adhikari,compare Sharif with U.S. President.

I don't see anyone "snubbing" anyone else here. He wants to bring his own car. Shouldn't make a big deal out of this.
