i think it is completely optional.

Carrying a swagger stick or a cane is optional.

Infantry officers carry cane and the CO carries a swagger stick.

Armoured Corps officers carry a riding crop.

In my unit, the CO carried a swagger stick that had silver bands carrying the CO's name and their tenure in the order they had commanded, last CO's name being at the last silver band towards the end of the cane.

The top silver knob has the crest and the date of the unit raising.

The other end was merely a silver wrap covering the end.

this is a serious event. this will make pakistan more wary of usa, the south asia will become more volatile with pakistani military going mad, inviting chinese to mess up the scene more and indiscriminate terror attacks in afghanistan against us and nato and may be Indian installations.

Pak can't to do anything against NATO/USA, and would be a mistake to do it.


NATO/US dont want more problems in afghanistan in the end of occupation mandate, for it means spend more time and money on war - exactly in a crisis time -, and more killed soldiers, that become the war more unpopular yet. this would accelerate the NATO's retreat of the country and its substitution by maybe India trained troops, something that pak fears.


Brings the Chinese, a foreign power, for the scenario it would estimulate yet more an India presence in Afghanistan, that is the China's natural adversary, because USA wouldn't like to see the Chinese in Afghanistan.
