The possible levy of the General Sales Tax on poultry feed in Pakistan will result in poultry prices escalating by around 20-25%, experts have warned.

The GST is likely to be announced in the federal budget, as the new government takes extra measures to enhance its revenue base.

The poultry industry firmly opposes the move, calling it detrimental to the growth of this important sector of the economy. Ex-Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association Abdul Basit said the poultry industry was already passing through a critical phase, facing Rs1 billion losses every month.

Basit added that poultry was one of the most important sectors of the economy as it provided livelihood to millions of people across the country and ensured the availability of cheap animal protein to the masses.

He asked the authorities concerned not to tax the food sector, keeping in view its repercussion on the food security of the country. Talking about the impact of GST on the poultry sector, Basit said the industry would mostly have to bear the negative impact as it could not be passed over to the consumers.

GST (single point tax system) is possibly the best thing that Pakistan can implement, it'll give a fresh lease of life to the economy

110rs/kg in abbottabad

very cheap still
110 pkr?
that's cheap, even with 25% rise it will still be cheap.
by the way what do you feed the chickens to keep the cost low?
and I am not even asking about medicines and vaccines for poultry, keeping in mind that the same is not available to humans.

because majority of the poultry farms are in mansehra..which is 15-20km from abbottabad.because the weather over here is Good enough for the chicks to grow up..
vis a vis compared to the farms in hot places of the rest of pakistan..and alot of chicks or almost half of them die growing.

so mansehra is kind of a regional place for poultry for most of the pakistan.(quetta as well).could be the reason of cheap
but even in Bannu it cost only 170rs/kg(few months old price)'
