Pakistan navy test fires missiles, torpedoes.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday successfully test fired new missiles and torpedoes from ships, submarines and aircraft in the Arabian Sea, the navy announced.
“Pakistan navy fleet today tested its fire power in the north Arabian Sea to assess lethality, precision and efficacy of its weapon system,” it said.
The navy did not disclose range or technical details but said “this included successful firing of a variety of missiles and torpedoes from the ships.”
The tests included anti-surface missiles from an F-22P frigate, acquired recently from China, air-to-surface missiles from P-3C aircraft and sub surface-to-surface missiles from Agosta 90B submarines that originate from France.
“While reassuring Pakistan navy’s commitment of defending the motherland, this strike capability would also send a message of deterrence to anyone harbouring nefarious designs against Pakistan,” the statement said.
South Asian rivals India and Pakistan — which have fought three wars, two of them over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir — routinely carry out missile tests since both demonstrated nuclear weapons capability in 1998.
Last month, India successfully tested a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-III missile with a range of more than 3,000 kilometres (2,000 miles) from Wheeler Island, off the coast of the eastern state of Orissa.
Pakistan’s arsenal includes short-range, medium and long-range nuclear capable missiles.

hmmmm Nothing much is being told about the tests. I am sure its not any new platform they test fired, just some harpoons or exocets or chinese weapon system test fired to see if they are working out as intended. The Babur was not involved in the test fire, if it was, the trumpet would have been blown! God Speed

Pakistan always talks of defending its motherland against the "nefarious" designs of any country (read India), but it has always been the ones with the dirty ideas. All statements are for domestic consumption which get worked up by anti India rhetoric so that the issues that are of real concern are slid below the carpet.

I would wonder if they tested the Harpoons that they have converted to land attack capability? Obviously they wont say that. Since they are not saying anything about the test makes me put 2x2 into place and think they may have done just that.

In Punjab people fire shots from 12 bore to celebrate or bully neighbors. I think it was just like that. If one see the language of news article one can assume what they are up to. i mean if you are testing it means you were uncertain and want to enhance your capabilities after R&D. Firing your borrowed stock pile doest mean testing to enhance but just firing for fun practise and intimidate/ provoke.

well i was waiting to se if there was anything special to these tests, But they seem to be the standard fair to make tit seem as though Pakistan military is actually up to something.

Lets consider the number of missile tests India has, How many of them are brand new missiles and technologies. and we aer doing those very regularly now at days. While we are progressing our Indigenous missile development like constantly and rapidly.
Pakistan cant look like its standing still. Its a show.

If harpoon has been converted to a land attack capability it would be a wasted effort the speed of harpoon in .85 mach and speed of Babur is .8 mach, and if it is true it may be a positive if it means we can also alter weapons we buy from USA; it can be a positive for us to have this as an excuse.

What difference does it make as to why they did all these tests. What's important from indian view was if any IN snooping ships were around to get a clue on what was going on?

I like this statement. it reminds me of the india testing agni-3 with nuclear capable and the indian newspaper directly point to China as the potential target e.g the missile can reach Shanghai and beijing etc. But the reality is CHina does not care india at all.

And i would like to quote the first two lines " India always talks of defending its motherland against the "nefarious" designs of any country (read CHina), but it has always been the ones with the dirty ideas. All statements are for domestic consumption which get worked up by anti CHina rhetoric so that the issues that are of real concern are slid below the carpet.

There is a video on BBC.

    link

Seems like all exercise was limited to firing of only one missile.

the NYT is seriosuly funny when it comes to 'unnamed sources', the only named source that was there in that harpoon modification article said this...

No modifications happened, PN has repeatedly said that Americans can inspect them

    Viola, here it is...

I never noticed how high the trajectory was for the C-802 before. Must be pretty easy to shoot down at range.
