JEDDAH— A Pakistan Navy Ship "S/M HAMZA" will call on Royal Saudi Naval Forces Base in Jubail on May 6 for a good will cum training cruise. It will dock at the base till May 11.
The navy ship named after Hadhrat Hamza, the great warrior of Islam and an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is the first indigenously built submarine of Pakistan Navy with MESMA AIP system. The submarine was built by PN Dockyard in collaboration with DCNS of France. Hamza was successfully launched on Aug. 10, 2006 and commissioned on Sept. 26, 2008.
Induction of Hamza in the Pakistan Navy's submarine force has added a new dimension in conventional submarines operations. Hamza has safely and smoothly conducted maximum endurance operation of MESMA at sea. The navy's submarine force with this state-of-the-art platform has gained unique capability of enhanced submerged endurance as compared to other navies in the region.
By virtue of its propulsion, weapons and sensor outfit, equipment efficiency, stealth and well-knit crew, the submarine is fully capable of undertaking variety of missions.
Mission closed on May 1
