Pakistan expresses worry over planned Air Force base in Gujarat; complains about 'Cold Start'
He claimed that the plan to build a forward airbase in Gujarat has 'confirmed the existence of the 'Indian Military's Cold Start Doctrine'.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has criticised India's plans to build a new airbase near its border in Gujarat and said it is part of an offensive doctrine that seeks to create space for 'war'.

The plan is fraught with danger and exposes India's 'irresponsible behavior', Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Faisal said on Thursday.

“The report about Gujrat provides credibility to the fact that India is fast developing the infrastructure and force configurations to operationalize these military doctrines. Subscribing to such offensive doctrines in a nuclearised region exposes irresponsible behaviour,” The News International quoted him as saying.

The new Indian Air Force base is set to be built in Deesa in Gujarat's Banaskantha district. It is near the border and is aimed at improving air superiority capabilities in the sector. The new airbase was announced by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman soon after she took charge of the ministry.

The Pakistani reaction is only the latest round of paranoia and knee-jerk reactions over India’s alleged ‘Cold Start’ military doctrine, allegedly developed after the 2001 Parliament attack by Pakistan-based terrorists. This doctrine reportedly allows the security forces to conduct offensive ops at a short notice as part of a unified battle group. It also emphasizes on speed and overwhelming firepower.

The aggressive and offensive nature of the alleged doctrine sparked panic in Pakistan. To make matters worse, Indian officials have given the full range of responses when asked about whether it exists. Some have confirmed its existence while others have expressed ignorance and yet others have denied its existence.

The Pakistani authorities and the media continue to refer to this alleged doctrine whenever the Indian armed forces build a military infrastructure or launch coordinated operations against terrorists, particularly on the border. The subject also commonly discussed during television debates in Pakistani news channels.

What is the easiest way to destroy a air force base?

If we can not make it a formidable Air Force base but are going to start with make shift to mediocre facility then there is no need to take the pains.

Actually India should start building Integrated Military cities near its borders here I would take the example of the King Khalid Military The city was finally completed in 1987 the city also has its own air base a few similar cities would really make the pakis piss themselves

What makes a facility formidable? Do you mean a covered runway?

King khalid city is a waste of resources. We don't have that much resources to build a city for military. We have too much population and even have people living in every land possible - like forests, mountains, himalayas etc. Even Pokhran has villages nearby.

We just need many bases, especially air force, near the borders to launch massive attack once Tejas Mk2 and Kaveri engine is completed.

Cruise missiles armed with cluster bombs and anti-runway bomb. Emphesis on missiles as more than one would be required to destroy an air-base not counting the ones that would be interceppted.
Considering that many planes can take off from 200-300m runways of aircraft carrier, we can cover up the runways too with reinforced concrete to shield about 400metre long runway from any attack.

The bigger runways needed for transport planes may not be protected but shorter ones can be protected.

The thing is with short runway plane can't take off with full weight. Planes have to compromise either on fuel or weapon payload or both. This is the reason why we have catapult assisted take off on form carriers.
No matter how much you reinforce concrete a well placed and highly directional explosive can penetrate the concrete and once inside the concrete primary explosive can detonate to cause massive damage to surrounding area causing a big crater.

Pak bases being a few dozen kms away, we can go easy on the fuel, right?

MiG29k can take off in 200 metre runway. Similarly, naval version of fighter aircrafts can be used to take off from short runways. N-LCA is also a good choice. We can even have ski-jump or EMALS or CATOBAR on the ground itself

It is possible to reinforce concrete greatly - few feet thick with multi layer. Such concrete can't be penetrated without repeated bombings. Also, another great way is to make underground tunnels like in Metro train with runways. If we can make metros underground in the middle of a city, surely, making an underground tunnel in a wasteland of Gujarat allocated for an airbase can be made much easily. It will be extremely difficult to penetrate the ground itself.

The main question is how will pakistan penetrate Indian airspace?

It is difficult for Pakistan to penetrate Indian airspace over longer distances. But Deesa is just 100km from border. Small ballistic missiles which are cheaply manufactured can be used in large numbers to attack the airbase. Pakistan has also got several anti ship missiles and other short range cruise missiles from China to be used. MRBL firing can also be done in salvos to take out such a close target.

Taking out targets which are long range requires accurate missiles and navigation system (which Pakistan doesn't have and India can jam GPS, Beidou, Glonass from within Indian airspace quite easily (satellite signals are weak and it doesn't take much energy to distort it) and Cruise missiles can be accurate with terrain mapping but are easily shot down due to slower speed and lesser maneuvering ability. So, Pakistan will find it difficult to take out deeper targets.
