Pakistan asks two Indian journalists to leave

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has declined to renew visas of two Indian journalists based in Islamabad and has asked them to leave the country, Wall Street Journal reported, citing a Pakistani government official.

The two have been told they must leave the country within a week, the newspaper said.

Meena Menon of the Hindu newspaper and Snehesh Philip of Press Trust of India were informed on Thursday by the director of the External Publicity Wing of the Ministry of Information that their visas wouldn't be renewed, the report said.

Another official of the External Publicity Wing, Altaf Hussain, would only say that a statement about the visas of the two Indian journalists would be forthcoming later from the Ministry of Interior. The Ministry of Interior couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

MK Razdan, editor-in-chief of Press Trust of India, when asked to comment by WSJ, said, "We have no confirmation as of Friday afternoon of the expulsion of the PTI reporter."

Any senior official at the Hindu wasn't available for comment. A representative of India's Ministry of External Affairs also said it had no immediate comment, the paper said.

Pakistan asks two Indian journalists to leave
**********************************************************************

Pakistan has neer taken kindly to journalists, domestic and international.

Hence, it is no surprise.

We are at least lucky that these journalists were not subjected to bomb attacks or killed, which is Pakistan's answer to those asking awkward question.

One would recollect the number of journalist killed, harassed, jailed and so on. The GeoTV chap was bombed and hospitalised!

On the other hand a couple of Indian journalists are favorites of Pakistani administration. Visa extension is a small matter for a journalist who is able to secure a informal meeting with NS for morning tea/ breakfast. ( Even at a overseas location )

And relations are so casual among them that NS jokes about PM MMS, in-front of the said journo, quite convinced that the matter wouldn't leave the 4 walls. True to that, the joke wasn't leaked by Indian Journo, who also later tried to clarify the whole thing as merely a misunderstanding.

Some are more equal than others. It's true in all spheres of life.

As doctors without borders, these so called privileged journos, think that they don't belong to any country. Not that I have a problem with that, but only when keep they mum on insults heaved on our country and institutions to demonstrate that the umbilical cords have already been severed.

But, on national television act as if there is no one better than them for the patriotic person of the year award.
