Well, for AURA, Government has approved dry engine development program Ghatak(derivative of Kaveri). Design and body will be developed eventually with AMCA project.
For PAK DA, let us make AURA first. We will make bombers also later.

I do not think Indian Govt has money to buy and maintain these white elephant not to forget the disagreements of PAKFA are to be resolved officially

Instead of buying nuclear capable Rafael jets from France which might be used by SFC, I suggest buy a dedicated stealth bomber.

A fighter or bomber is more expensive and more prone to enemy fire compared to a missile.

A typical Agni missile costs 20-30 crore. And once made, it hardly costs anything in maintenance. It is a single use weapon.

A Rafale costs 600 crore. Plus it costs 30 crore annually in maintenance.

A Rafale has much higher footprint in terms of facilities required to keep it, and fly.

A missile can be hidden anywhere and launched from anywhere. It does not need an airport.

A Rafale or any fighter/bomber is more likely to get shot down when in enemy territory. A missile has much higher chances of delivering its load.

So all factors taken in, a missile is much better for nuclear delivery.

A bomber has higher utility for conventional weapons, as it can carry more war-load. Again survivability of bomber depends on many factors, mainly capability of adversary. Any Indian plane crossing into Chinese territory is likely to encounter strong resistance. So striking any targets deep into China is a difficult proposition with any kind of manned aircraft.

PAK-DA may not work for India.

PAK-DA might be the only bomber offered to India with latest technology, TOT and make in India. I completely agree that a bomber is very vulnerable in a contested airspace but a stealth bomber is designed for it.

Aura is a UAV, we do not have a manned bomber program. Currently we can afford to be a part in the development of stealth bomber with Russians

PAK-DA is far from production. And it is NOT on offer to India. I think there is no talk between India and Russia on this project whatsoever. Speculation does not help.

India wants to develop hypersonic missiles.

Su-30 can carry 8 tons to 1500km. It is sufficient for our foreseeable needs.

I think we need a large number of fighters urgently as our preoccupation is with status quo (maintaining the borders). We need a lot of interceptors. We should do everything to increase production of LCA, and possibly go for F-18 line urgently.

We never had the balls which the current dispensation in centre has, the Italian-Congis have messed up our defenses forget offensive capabilities. We need to have the capabilities to bomb any part of the Indian ocean rim including emergency strikes against ISIS if needed in future. PAK-DA type aircraft will give us that ability and some insight into bomber technology via TOT. I hope some one in the MOD or Modi sarkar has a view on offensive power, Parrikar is the best bad ass RM India ever had and lets hope he can get a deal on PAK-FA and PAK-DA too.
