India launches ASW Corvette

India today launched first of its kind Anti Submarine Warfare(ASW) Corevette at GRSE shipyard in Kolkata. The ASW Corvette belongs to the Kamorta Class of Warships with Anti Submarine Warfare capability and very low signature of radiated under water noise.

This Corvette is designated to be a frontline warship for the Indian Navy. This ship is equipped with Sophisticated arrangement for mounting Ships machinery. The weapon Systems and sensor suits of this ship are fully indigenous. The 'X' form of hull and superstructure gives her a low radar cross section. The Ship's hull form has overall length of 109 mtrs and can cut through the sea at a very high speed of 25 knots. She is built with special grade high tensile steel.

The propulsion system of the ship typifies power combined with flexibility and consists of two controllable pitch propellers. It has four indigenously made Diesel engines each of 3800 kw. The ASW Corvette is 13.7 mtrs wide. Four ASW Corvettes are presently under construction at GRSE.

That's the project-28 ASW, alrite. That scale model is merely a likeness, not intended to resemble real specifications.

I hope future units of the Corvette use CODAG-WARP or CODAG-electric as propulsion systems. I'm not too keen on entirely diesel engines for ASW.

These boats are going to be pain in a$$ for PN SSKs and they are intended to be. And i guess 7-8 is just initial order P-28B will count even higher besides being more potent.

These corvettes are not corvettes but successor to pocket destroyers..

These are new Pocket destroyers, Just look at Surface to Surface wepions..

Unlike Kora class, These have SAM..

I think this 2nd Kamorta class corvette will be inducted in early/mid 2013. Next year June, 1st will be inducted.

i dont think so. at most a coating to avoid detection with super silent furniture- nothing more than that. look at the design. its RCS will be less but still significant.

its stealth is less than shivalik

In designing a ship with reduced radar signature, the main concerns are radar beams originating near or slightly above the horizon (as seen from the ship) coming from distant patrol aircraft, other ships or sea-skimming anti-ship missiles with active radar seekers. Therefore, the shape of the ship avoids vertical surfaces, which would perfectly reflect any such beams directly back to the emitter. Retro-reflective right angles are eliminated to avoid causing the cat's eye effect. A stealthy ship shape can be achieved by constructing the hull and superstructure with a series of slightly protruding and retruding surfaces.
