OU students told to counter Modi on social networks - The New Indian Express

Osmania University political science professor Kancha Illaiah has called upon the BC, SC, ST and minority students to open accounts on Facebook, Twitter etc and counter the support that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has been drawing on social networking sites as the best prime ministerial candidate.

Dozens of social networking accounts were created by the Sangh Parivar and allied organistations batting for Modi on the Internet, he said and asked the students to post the message, “We do not want to see Modi as prime minister” as many times as possible in a day.

Addressing a seminar organised by various student organisations at Osmania University here on Monday on the theme of “Modithva Development: A beautiful myth”, the political science faculty member said violent attacks took place against Muslims in Gujarat during his 12-and-a-half-year rule, and the whole Muslim world sees him as an enemy.

Stating that Modi rose protesting against Mandal Commission recommendations for providing reservation to BCs, Ilaiah said the BCs will get no support from Modi, though he belongs to a BC community. There is no quota for BCs in Gujarat state, he said.

He called upon the youth to question Modi whether he is willing to provide reservations to castes in proportion to their respective populations.

Stating that violence against Muslims was on the rise since Modi took charge as Gujarat chief minister in 2001 in Gujarat, social activist Shabnam Hashmi alleged that many Muslims were killed in a series of attacks.

She alleged that Gujarat youth had lost their rational thinking during the rule of Modi because of his ‘dictatorship’.

Economist Prof Hemanth Shah and environmentalist Prof Mahesh Pandya, both from Gujarat, OU research scholar B Sudharshan and others spoke. Various students organisations had jointly organised the seminar.

Osmania University, one of many cancers affecting the national education system. Joining JNU, Jamia, AMU etc, in their quest to support and encourage anti-Hinduism.
