BIN LADEN DEAD, U.S. OFFICIAL SAYS

WASHINGTON--Osama bin Laden has been killed, a United States official said Sunday night.

President Obama is expected to make an announcement on Sunday night, almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Lots of conflicting reports on where exactly he was killed- CNN said something about him being dispatched by drones/agents in a mansion outside Islamabad, from where the body was taken to Afghanistan, while others reports say he was killed in Afghanistan.

If the news about mansion near Islamabad is true, Pakistan will burn for next few days.

I can see the possibility of a coup in the land of the pure. It's unlikely that he could have been killed there without some local assistance.

Not enough. Expect them to ask for F-16s, F-25s, Nuclear deal, more loans from the IMF and WB, more visas, more work permits, more missiles.....

Not to mention Obama waxing eloquent about the critical and indispensable role played by their strategic ally in the war against terror, while Gilani and Zardari stand there grinning like the wankers they are..

Some reports say Osama was killed by US ground forces. So i suspect ISI must have helped them.

Killing Osama has nothing more than symbolic victory. It will not resolve Afghanistan quagmire . It will also strengthen the claim that Pakistan was sheltering OSAMA . so what next ? more F16 in lieu of sheltering Osama?

But he was killed outside Islamabad, kind of blows the Pak claims of "Osama not here" out of water. Wouldn't it be more favourable for them to spread the impression that he was killed in Afghanistan or some where in the tribal regions/remote Baluchistan.

Cannot say there would be a lot of ground consequences of this event. But it surely is a symbolic blow for terrorists and Quaeda.
There may be some ripples depending upon the exposed operandi of how he died and who contributed to it (thinking about the neighborhood ;) ).
Good news anyways :)

On the contrary... something equally worse may happen. America might give up on its War on Terror and get out of Afghanistan, since its "main" intention is accomplished. So no more reliance on Pakistan... no more aid/gifts/blood money. And as they wash their hands off, the Talibanis will probably get stronger... and then no doubt create havoc in Afghanistan and Pakistan thereafter. We need to think about what happens after the Talibanis are firmly established in Af-Pak. India and even the world will not be a safe place surely.

Ofcourse, all this is assuming that US will leave Afghanistan and Taliban becomes a far more powerful entity in this region.

Just a point to ponder...

Somehow it must favor them or else we wont be hearing reports of OBL killed in Pakistan.

ISI must have been hiding him there if he could hide in Islamabad for so long.
