The Ordnance Factory is planning to develop a future infantry soldier system -- an all weather suit with tactical gear to equip the armed forces to counter rising challenges on the borders and terrorist activities.

"We are in the process of making a future infantry soldier system. The system will be integrated and designed in such a way that a soldier is able to engage enemies both day and night, summer or winter with an upper hand. It will take three years time," member of the Ordnance Factory Board Sartaj Singh told reporters here on Monday.

The system will be designed for soldiers, fighting in mountainous terrains like Kargil and Siachen, known for its harsh weather conditions. The helmet of the new suit will be equipped with a visor, which will act as a screen, displaying the position of enemy soldiers behind obstacles with the help of satellite coordinates.

Wireless will help the soldier to remain in touch with commanding officers. The system will also be designed to maintain blood pressure, body temperature and pulse rate of the soldier. "The system will be equipped in such a way that it will get coordinates from satellites and other technologies,"
    Singh said.

He said that the system was being developed in collaboration with the Ordnance Factory, Indian Army and the DRDO, so that there is no delay in decision-making. "We are working as a team," he added.

Trusting and supporting domestic products is one thing, buying body armor from OFB is quite another. No commander worth his salt will want his troops wearing equipment from OFB. Thats the reputation the OFB have made for themselves. They made a mockery of the ammunition, and still they expect its next gen body suit to find support from the army. WOW, thats confidence.

On topic, TATA would be a better developer and more importantly a better intergrator of the various equipments that will eventually become the F-INSAS. They have a prototype nearly ready I believe.

Bhadra TATA power has made artillery gun with 52% indigenous components. For three months now, the company has been requesting the ministry to allow them to test fire from a military firing range.

This shows how utter stupid those artillery guys are. They are good for nothing some of them must be waiting for some good kicks. Hope in the end every foreign company is black listed, so that those guys are end up kicking themselves.

It isn't the fault of TATA that they were discouraged and even not allowed to develop defence equipment for the OA until recently. And they have begun supplying equipment for the IA, especially the heavy off roading trucks for the Prahaar missile battery. Place an open tender and see what happens. Money makes the world go around in corporate world.

No one is talking of a magic wand, but when the OFB has consistently refused to learn and improve on its quality standards, and chosen its own profit over the safety of the nation, the time has come that the baton carried by OFB until now be handed over to the private sector, where competition will decide the survivor and the extinct.

The best policy should always be perform or perish.
