this gentleman is acting like a prima donna. What does he want the GOI to jump over the hoops for him.

Also he has been vilifying the elected PM of India all over the world and then he expects a red carpet also. Not happening soon Mr.Amartya Sen.

    He is whining.

Sen was in competition with Arvind Panagariya, who is an Indian-American economist and Professor of Economics at Columbia University and an ex-Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank and has had the famous spat with him over the models for India's growth. Sen argued that India should invest more in its social infrastructure to boost the productivity of its people and thereby raise growth, while Bhagwati arguds that only a focus on growth can yield enough resources for investing in social sector schemes
Read more at: Everything you wanted to know about the Sen-Bhagwati debate - Livemint

Arvind Pangariya was the preferred choice of the new Govt and was appointed the Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog of India, while Sen, who was the favoured economist of the UPA govt lost out.

It is natural that Sen will be bristling with rage now that he has been shown the door and thereby his losing all the limelight he was enjoying, even if little, after the fall of his favoured govt of UPA.

As the proverb goes - Grapes are sour. It sure is real sour for Sen, more so since he is a Nobel Laureate, which has made him feel that he is some Sir Oracle, wise, mighty and the last word in anything and everything. ;)

What was happening in Nalanda was scorned upon by the likes of APJ Abdul Kalam.
That tells you not all was well down there.

He was paid $80000 per year, tax free afaik.

I am glad that he is gone. I don't like his economic views, I don't like his social/political views, and I don't like his work in Nalanda. Any random municipality school in Murugeshpalya 3rd block Bangalore East looks better than the Nalanda campus he has come up with (at a staggering cost of Rs. 2700 crore).

"Governments should not interfere in academic governance" - well, ok - probably academics shouldn't make asinine statements about politics and politicians. They should maintain strict neutrality.

If academics are not neutral, how can we be sure that they won't drill their own brand of politics into students? Students must be given an impartial and biased view, and should be encouraged to study, look around, and form their opinions. Academics should be neutral. And Amartya Sen was not neutral - he has publicly shown his disdain for the current regime and its leaders.

We should stop treating these foreign return brown Nobel Laureates as our heroes. These people have zero affinity with the people of India or with the Indian state.

Mr.Amartya Sen complaints that there is politics in education and this is in protest against it. But how was he appointed in the first place? It was a clear political decision. Prof Sen was the darling of Sonia Gandhi and her NAC. He claimed that MMS was his friend and he openly spoke against Modi as the candidate for PM.

Plus there were other disturbing reports on the funds, appointment of staff, exorbitant salary and also the influence of the daughter of MMS.

Exiting from Nalanda University on a sour note does Amartya Sen no credit - Firstpost

This is the temporary office. You can visit their website and the picture is captioned as "Nalanda University Temporary Office,Rajgir, Bihar." Of course there would be additional buildings later. Many govt. universities and schools started with makeshift arrangements.
