It wasn't that long ago that the Indian Navy took out a civilian Thai fishing boat in the same area. Those are troubled waters. Accidents happen.

Bloody murdering scumbags...the person who fired should be arrested and the victims family should be compensated.
The operator of the vessel fired upon was operating recklessly, at high speed, within 100 meters of a warship. Spare me the drama.

The victims will be compensated. They usually are.

The issue was never about that. I took offence at our resident american gop rep questioning the authenticity of the victims being fishermen? He was blatantly suggesting that they deserved what they got. Read through the posts again.

Americans are trigger happy, everyone knows that. Shoot first and ask questions later is their philosophy. You should compare the number of civilians shot and killed by police in the US to that in India. The ratio will probably be something like 100:1 despite India having 4 times the population of the States.

Unfortunately for the poor fisherman that died, nothing can replace his loss for his family. Hopefully the USG will provide enough monetary compensation to lessen their pain. Don't count on it though, remember the peanuts that were passed along to the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy?

What purpose does that serve. A window for the the trolls to mock us some more?

What is Ewald trying to suggest using quotation around fishing boat and fishermen? That they weren't? Is he suggesting that they were terrorists?
I am suggesting they were not out there wearing turbans and loincloths and casting their nets.

They claim they were returning from fishing and "encountered" the USS Rappahannock.

USNS Rappahannock (T-AO-204) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A prudent boat operator does not run at high speed up to a much larger vessel within a distance of 100 meters. I will further say that I believe the Indians involved are lying bastards who are trying to shift blame for their own foolishness.

Here is another joker:

Dubai's police chief, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, said an initial investigation suggests "the boat was in its right course and did not pose any danger," according to comments published by Abu Dhabi-based daily The National. He told the government-backed newspaper that the shooting appeared to be a mistake.
The Chief has no idea what he is talking about. Next these people will be saying the USN ship chased down the fishing boat. They are ridiculous.

Monday - Dubai: US Navy murders an Indian fisherman off the coast of the United Arab Emirates in an act of piracy on the high seas. The US military vessel strafed the civilian boat with gunfire, murdering one fisherman and injuring a further three.

Surprised? Not really, after all using military hardware against soft civilian targets is a favourite US pastime. The US pirate vessel - USNS Rappahannock - a refuelling ship belonging to the US Fifth Fleet, stated that the fishing boat approached at high speed and ignored warnings to turn away, at which point the pirates opened fire, murdering one fisherman and injuring three others. They were taken to the port of Jebel Ali, Dubai. The survivors said that had made every attempt to avoid the Fifth Fleet vessel and that no warning was given.

In declarations to Reuters News Agency, one of the survivors, Munthu Muniraj, 28, stated "We had no warning at all from the ship, we were speeding up to try and go around them and then suddenly we got fired at... We know warning signs and sounds and there were none; it was very sudden. My friend was killed, he's gone. I don't understand what happened."

His body is pockmarked with rounds from the .50 caliber gun on the American military vessel.

Any words of regret or apology from Washington? No. Warning shots fired into the air? Let us see what two other victims said: "We were fishing and then on the way back they started shooting at us, so many shots, like a storm," (Munthu Kannan, shot in the stomach and leg); "This is not the first time for us to go out in the boat and we all know what a warning is... All I can remember is a lot of shooting." (Pandu Sanadhan).

Pravda? Now that's funny.
I know that pravda (meaning truth) will cause you some itches at certain places, and is 'funny'. Anyway, here's the BBC link:

Indian fishermen injured when their boat was shot at by a US Navy ship off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) say they received no warnings before they came under fire.

One fisherman was killed and three others injured when the USNS Rappahannock raked the small boat with machinegun fire near Dubai on Monday.

The US Navy says the boat approached at speed and ignored repeated warnings.

Indian and US officials have launched investigations into the incident.

The shooting comes as the US expands its military presence in the Gulf, ramping up pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme.
'Very sudden'

Fisherman Muthu Muniraj, 28, speaking to Reuters news agency from hospital in Dubai, said they had not received any warnings from the US refuelling ship.

"We had no warning at all from the ship, we were speeding up to try and go around them and then suddenly we got fired at," he said.

Mr Muniraj was shot in the legs.

"We know warning signs and sounds and there were none. It was very sudden. My friend was killed, he's gone. I don't understand what happened."

The crew of the boat - six Indians and two Emiratis - said they had been returning from trawling in waters off Jebel Ali.

"We were fishing and then on the way back they started shooting at us, so many shots, like a storm," said Muthu Kannan, 35.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg.

"This is not the first time for us to go out in the boat and we all know what a warning is," said Pandu Sanadhan, 26.
USNS Rappahannock (file image) A security team on the Rappahannock opened fire after the boat failed to heed warnings, the US says

"All I can remember is a lot of shooting."

The identity of the fisherman who was killed has not yet been released.

The dead man and his wounded colleagues all came from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The US embassy in Delhi issued a statement on Tuesday "to convey its condolences" to the families of the crew.

US defence officials said on Monday that after "the vessel disregarded non-lethal warnings and rapidly approached the US ship", a security team on the Rappahannock fired rounds from a .50-calibre machine gun.

There were concerns of a repeat of the suicide attack 12 years ago on the destroyer USS Cole in which a small boat was used, they added.

Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna described Monday's death as "unfortunate" and said the matter had been taken up with the United States.

Monday's incident follows the killing of two Indian fishermen in February off India's southern coast by Italian marines guarding an oil tanker. The marines said they mistook the fishermen for pirates.

Two Italian marines have been charged with murder and are on trial in India and the incident has caused a diplomatic row between the two countries.

Gentlemen, please, don't attack the messenger and stop this name calling.

There is no end to this, and doesn't help!

And also, polite requests don't seem to work.

Does anyone remember the recent incident where an Italian ship fired and killed two Indians in a similar fishing boat? In that case, the two Italian marines were arrested, put in jail, and their trial continues. Anyone want to take a guess what's going to happen in this case?

They were in Indian waters, not international.

The US philosophy is that not one US soldier should get killed and that is why they shoot at the slightest whiff of danger rather than check and recheck before acting.

This can lead to errors as it has happened in this case.

It is now for the UAE Govt to act since the boat was UAE owned and the Captain of the boat in which the crew (Indian) was killed and injured, was a UAE citizen.

Americans do not value lives of other nationals. For them every part of this world except the USA is a war-zone, including those places where creatures called unarmed civilians do things to earn their living. I am 100% sure that no warning was given and the soldiers on-board went directly for a kill.
India must tell USA very clearly that there will be diplomatic and strategic repercussions (even though they won't give a hoot). But what can the corrupt Puppet MMS do? His family earn their living in $$$$. This world belongs to those who have got guts, and we have got none.
