^ The contract has been given to Indian companies, GMR Group and SJV Nigam. I wonder how much is the contract worth?
Actually its another contract which has been awarded to Indian companies. The project would benefit India as the power produced would be exported to India. So in INR the project would be comparatively less then any other equivalent project.

Upset Pak Drops Bid To Include PoK Dam In China-Pak Economic Corridor
A flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative, the CPEC is a trade network of highways, railways, pipelines and optical cables currently under construction throughout Pakistan.
World | NDTV News Desk | Updated: November 16, 2017 20:50 IST

Islamabad: Pakistan has refused China's aid for a $14-billion dam being built on the river Indus and has also withdrawn its bid to include the project in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor or CPEC over Beijing's strict conditions. The Diamer-Bhasha dam is located in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, and Islamabad has been struggling to raise money in the face of India's opposition.

"Chinese conditions for financing the Diamer-Bhasha Dam were not doable and against our interests," Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority chairman Muzammil Hussain has said, according to news agency PTI.

The Chinese conditions, he said, were about taking ownership of the project, operation and maintenance cost and securitisation of the project by pledging another operational dam.

These conditions were unacceptable, so Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi approved financing the dam from the country's own resources, said Mr Hussain.

China today said it was not aware of Islamabad's decision. "I can tell you that China and Pakistan cooperation is extensive and profound," said Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, adding, "As far as I know CPEC is progressing smoothly for the time being."

The CPEC, a part of President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road Initiative, runs through PoK and India has raised strong objections to it, saying it violates its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

A flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative, the CPEC is a trade network of highways, railways, pipelines and optical cables currently under construction throughout Pakistan.

India skipped the Belt and Road Forum in May this year because of its sovereignty concerns.

Construction work on the Diamer-Bhasha dam site is set to begin next year and it may take nine years to complete.

The ground-breaking ceremony has been performed five times in the past 15 years for the dam, which will have the capacity to generate 4,500MW of electricity and store six million acre feet of water.

The Express Tribune quoted Pakistan's Water Resources Secretary Shumail Khawaja as saying that no one was ready to finance the dam - neither the World Bank nor the Asian Development Bank. Islamabad, therefore, decided to use its own resources.

Pakistan's decision to take the dam project off the table comes just days before a meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee, the highest decision-making body of the CPEC.

Ready to alter economic corridor route: China
(Sweeter than honey brothers are desperate to include arch rival of Pakistan : India in OBOR)

China may consider alternative routes through Jammu and Kashmir to address India’s concerns regarding the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In an interaction with experts on Chinese affairs and students, Beijing’s envoy Luo Zhaohui suggested the alternative routes, and said he was keen on accomplishing a bilateral friendship and trade treaty during his stint in India.

“We can change the name of CPEC [China Pakistan Economic Corridor]. Create an alternative corridor through Jammu and Kashmir, Nathu La pass or Nepal to deal with India’s concerns,” said the envoy in a speech at the Centre for Chinese and South-East Asian Studies in the School of Language, JNU, on Friday.

The Ambassador made a detailed presentation of the expectations on both sides and said that while the Dalai Lama’s presence and activities remain an issue for China, Beijing recognised that India’s expectations on the CPEC and Masood Azhar were also issues that both sides need to be deal with.

Referring to the dynamic situation in the world, Ambassador Luo said, “There is widespread change in world affairs since the coming to power of President Donald Trump of the U.S.”

“President Trump sealed $250 billion worth of trade deals with China. Would that be possible if China was a threat,” he asked, arguing that China and India as growing economies must cooperate with each other.

“One of my goals is to have a treaty of friendship and free trade with India,” he said, elaborating that both sides need to find more areas to collaborate like the Delhi smog. “Beijing also has smog and two sides can jointly deal with this issue.”

Railway projects fail to win green light

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Wednesday agreed on 15-year policy document that will translate the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor into a reality but both the countries could not end differences over two critical infrastructure projects amounting to $10 billion.

Unlike the past, this time Pakistan had to struggle hard to push its agenda amid domestic political uncertainty and China’s reluctance to commit for new projects. Progress on most of the items could not be achieved.

The framework agreement of $2 billion Karachi Circular Railways project and the financing agreement of $8.2 billion Main-Line-I of Pakistan Railways could not be signed during the 7th meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC).

The design of $260 million New Gwadar International Airport could also not be finalised.

There was also a dispute over the site of setting up a Special Economic Zone in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as Beijing was reluctant to accept the provincial government recommended Rashakai site in Mardan.

The only major outcome of the JCC was the agreement over the Long Term Plan (2014-2030) that is expected to translate the national economic plans of both the countries into one policy document covering all common grounds for the socioeconomic cooperation.

“The final agreement on the 2030 long-term plan has been achieved,” said the minister for planning and development after the JCC meeting.

Pakistan did not accept China’s demand to introduce Yuan in the country.

But Iqbal said Pakistan would explore the possibility of using the Chinese currency for making payments for capital imports for CPEC.

The LTP is the most critical element of the China-Pakistan economic relationship, as it lays the foundation of cooperation in all economic and financial areas for decades to come.

However, K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak expressed serious reservations over the LTP and the selection of the SEZ site in his province.

“K-P has been ignored in the plan and many important nodes like Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan have not been included in the LTP,” said Khattak while talking to the media.

if only naming would do any good, quite pathetic to expect just naming would change the nature of the project. it would be prudent if China goes on record about not using POK for CPEC , maybe then their intentions can be discussed and expect it to suit our needs, if not be wary of the proxy war which the Doval Doctrine is gonna implement in the POK to sabotage CPEC.

I don't see a reason why India should.

After all the hype has died down and after Porkis would feel sexually violated by Chinis, the infrastructure will remain there for to be used by anyone. Whatever OBOR is, it's not actually offering India anything except the roads in Pakistan which are of little use to India, something which was proved by Afghanistan wheat shipment.

It makes very little sense for India to join OBOR when India itself is developing alternatives to OBOR. Why go through the hassle?

@Kyubi @sthf i don't see doval agreeing to this anyway. either chinese are completely clueless or waiting for Indian communists to pick up this issue and raise it as a sign of china extending hand of friendship and all.

Are these only wish horses or Doval Modi combine really has some plan to sabotage CPEC in PoK. It may be possible in Baloch'stn but i dont think we have any pro India orgns working in PoK. Pak has settled Sunni Pakjabis even Pashtuns there to change the demographics. I seem to believe Modi is limiting its strategy to our side of Kashmir only. All developments like action on Hurriyat, Army Opn AllOut, Interlocuter appointment etc indicate the same. Any game to be played in PoK or Baloch may be a pipedream.

I wasn't even commenting on the strategic implications of doing such a thing, my argument was primarily financial with a hint of geo politics. Doval may or may not have a say in this. We can't be sure of that.

Neither Commies nor their pet columnists have any standing in the eyes of a common voter. BJPs strategy has been clear from day 1, fuck opposition and fuck media. Electoral success trump everything and you can't get votes by doing Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai, no one can. Indians dont vote for foreign policy.
