WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama, facing a damaging election-year problem if Iraq's political crisis worsens, has launched an urgent behind-the-scenes push to ease tensions between the Baghdad central government and the Kurds.

Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurds' semi-autonomous regional government, paid a quiet visit to the White House on April 4 and left with backing for two long-standing requests that could help build the worried Kurds' confidence in U.S. support.

Country flag
1-Iraqi Kurds are important for Iraq's security because they were one of main US allies in Iraq occupation. The Iraqi Kurdistan is the safest zone of country for Kurds don't considers the Iraq as their country, so they dont are disposed to die struggling against USA occupation. There are also many Kurdish soldiers and commanders in Iraqi troops. And Obama needs now a stable Iraq for him to try the reelection.

2-Kurdistan is oil exporter, but it faces some difficulties to sell their oil due to bad relationship with Iraqi federal gov. Obama could make an agreement between Kurd regional and Iraq federal govs to increase the oil supply in US and lows the gas price to make happy american electors.

3-Kurds are on Syrian, yeah, but they compose a piece of Syrian opposition to Assad. Turkey and Kurds have problems, however Assad's opposition are a common cause now. Nothing in Middle East policy is so 'black or white', and Turkey and Kurds could leave their quarrel for an instant to fight against Assad. Kurd support in Syria is welcome by US now.

The Kurds are descended from an ancient Near Eastern civilization called the Mittanis.
According to archaeological evidence, the Mittani worshipped Vedic gods and spoke a language that was similar to Sanskrit.
They are very closely related to the Indians. Many of them even have last names like "Sind"!
