New Delhi: A shocking case of nuclear operating negligence has come to light in Gujarat. Four contract workers at the Kakrapar atomic reactor near Surat were exposed to almost six times the annual permissible levels of radiation.

On May 30, 2011, seven workers were painting a tunnel when this accident happened. According to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a possible human error led to the discharge of waste nuclear fuel.

Authorities say the workers have been exposed to levels that will not cause any adverse health effects in them. The incident came to light when the workers complained to district authorities that they were not being treated.

I've got to say one thing. The last time I was in Gujarat, through Vapi the place smelled like a cess pit. The entire area is teeming with sulphur dioxide and other industrial discharges. And the groundwater has been contaminated beyond belief. I don't know how anybody lives there!

I wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened near Surat.

They take shit to dismantle even Bangaldesh doesn't!
