Now Bangladesh promises action against Indian insurgents

Bangladesh has promised firm action against insurgents from India`s northeastern states taking shelter in the country, an Indian official said here on Thursday.

“We have handed over a list of 39 Indian insurgent camps to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). They have assured us of taking firm action against the Indian insurgents operating from Bangladesh,” Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman Sushil Kumar Singh said.

A four-day inspector general-level Border Coordination Conference between the BSF and the BGB concluded here at the BSF frontier headquarters on Thursday.BSF Inspector General Sudesh Kumar, who led the Indian side, handed the fresh list to the BGB delegation led by Brig. Gen. Md. Latiful Haider.

“The list has been prepared based on specific intelligence inputs about the location of the insurgent camps in Bangladesh. Most of these insurgent camps are located at several areas in Bangladesh`s Mymensing, Moulvibazar, Netrakona, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Chittagong Hill Tract and the Kasalong Reserve Forest,” the spokesman said.

The camps included those of the ULFA, NSCN-IM, NDFB, PLA, HNLC and other rebel groups active in the northeastern states with demands ranging from secession to greater autonomy and the right to self-determination.

“In the recent times, Bangladesh has acted against the Indian insurgents. This time too, we are hopeful that they would act against forces which are against India,” he said.

Four northeastern states — Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam — share a 1,880-km border with Bangladesh. The dense forests, mountainous terrain, unfenced borders and other issues make the area porous and vulnerable.

Apart from the insurgent camps, the BSF expressed concern over the frequent crimes committed by Bangladeshi nationals inside Indian territory which include poaching, illegal migration and smuggling of fake Indian currency notes.

BGB`s Brig. Gen. Haider raised issues like killing, kidnapping and injuring of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals by Indian nationals in bordering areas, besides requested the logistic support from the BSF and use of Indian roads to maintain and construct the BOPs at hilly and remote areas in Bangladesh.

This is a good step and would help both countries so both can get rid of people harming each other and also solve land disputes in a peaceful manner.

It can help control radicals and insurgents in Sub Continent.

SAARC can go to hell and India can coordinate on 1 to 1 basis for all neighbors except 1 who is hell bent on being a terrorist.

this is definitely a good evolution, see how a good foreign diplomacy can enable us to manage our borders and enhance internal security. this refreshing air in Indo-bangla relations should persist so that both nations can benefit from it.

Pakistan can take a leaf from INDO-BANGLA RELATIONS and behave like a good neighbor (though it is too much of asking). otherwise, hell to those who ask for it.

They would not take any leaf but plan some terror activities so that it creates problems between India-BD.If you forgot they tried when some BSF men were killed by BD and sent to India hanged upside down. Pakis were behind that.India almost thought about tit for tat but some sanity prevailed somehow. :truestory:

You CANT expect Pakis to take any constructive and positive step due to their "1000 cut bleeding India" national policy.

Pakis still feel humiliated how we broke them into 2 pieces and BD is a free nation today.

This is a good news but expecting too much from BD is not going to help India. I would like to see the implementation on ground. Many in Bangladesh are not happy with the improvement of relationship with India. No doubt it is Hasina who is pro-Indian but you can't guarantee the goody goody relationship once Hasina gets off from PM's chair. It is better if we install robust infra along the border and stop the infiltration of our own. If BD goes behind the militants, they will be doing it for their wellbeing, yes this will help us too.
I have heard many stories about how Bangladeshis brought to end the trade/transport through Brahmaputra river to Assam. BDs used to loot the barges and even Killed many Indians en-route. Hindus are still persecuted in Bangladesh. Many Hindus lost their land during East Pakistan period and their properties are still tagged as enemy property in BD.
