No space for NCP in NDA: Shiv Sena - The Times of India
    PTI | Jan 31, 2014, 03.59 PM IST

NEW DELHI: Sharad Pawar is not welcome in the NDA, Shiv Sena said on Friday, making it clear that there is no space for NCP in the BJP-led alliance at the Centre or in Maharashtra.

"We will not allow NCP to come to NDA. There is no space for Sharad Pawar's party in the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra," Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said.

Raut's remarks came close on the heels of a media report that Pawar had a meeting with BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi here, which has been slammed as "completely mischievous" and "baseless" by the NCP chief.

"Neither our doors nor our windows are open," Raut remarked when asked about NCP leaders like D P Tripathi saying that options are open for the party. NCP is the second largest constituent of the Congress-led UPA.

Asked about statements of some NCP leaders like Praful Patel which appeared soft on Modi, he said it was a good thing. "The UPA has become a sinking ship, and when the ship starts sinking, the rats are first to desert it," the Shiv Sena leader said.

Raut said that at a mega rally held in Kolhapur district in Maharashtra on Thursday by the leaders of Shiv Sena, BJP, RPI and Swabhimani Sanghtana, it was declared that their struggle was against the Congress-NCP government in the state.

NCP is in alliance with Congress and sharing power in Maharashtra since 1999 after Pawar parted ways with Congress on the issue of Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin.

NCP is part of the UPA at the Centre for the past 10 years.

Congress delaying alliance talks: NCP leader Praful Patel - The Times of India

MUMBAI: Senior NCP leader Praful Patel on Friday said the Congress was delaying seat-sharing talks with his party in Maharashtra.

Talking to reporters here, Patel said the Sharad Pawar-led party wanted its alliance with Congress to continue.

"But, we are losing patience because Congress was delaying alliance talks," the Union minister said, adding this was creating confusion.

Patel said he would be meeting Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who belongs to Congress, later in the day to discuss seat-sharing arrangement for Lok Sabha polls.

He said need of the hour was to have a clarity on alliance between the two parties, who share power in Maharashtra as well at the Centre. "We are in alliance with the Congress and this will continue."

Seat-sharing issue with Cong to be resolved in 10 days: Pawar

Seat sharing issue with Congress will be resolved in next 10 days and the ongoing talks are "cordial", NCP chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday amid signs of strain in ties between the two parties which are out to drive a hard bargain for Lok Sabha polls.

The remarks from Pawar, who is the NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister, came close on the heels of party leader Praful Patel saying that NCP was losing patience over the "delay" by Congress and that "options are open".

Patel, a Union Minister, reportedly gave a three-day deadline to Congress, but Pawar today denied any "ultimatum".

Congress-NCP seat sharing talks for LS polls on Monday

New Delhi: Seat sharing talks between Congress and NCP for the Lok Sabha elections will be held here tomorrow.

The talks are expected to be held between Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel one one hand, and Ahmed Patel and A K Antony on the other.

Sources said the parties are likely to maintain the 26-22 formula under which Congress will contest 26 seats and NCP 22 in Maharashtra which has 48 seats. It is second largest state after UP (80 seats) in terms of Lok Sabha members.

State Congress leaders including PCC chief Manikrao Thakre and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan favour 19 seats for NCP.

NCP is the oldest ally of Congress and the two parties have been fighting Parliament elections since 2004. They have been sharing power in Maharashtra since 1999, soon after Pawar parted ways on the issue of Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin.

The bone of contention is Kolhapur seat which was alloted to NCP but was won by an NCP rebel who has become an associate member of Congress.

There is a talk of swapping of some seats in Marathwada and north Maharashtra between the two parties.

"After discussions with NCP, we will announce our seat sharing formula. The meeting will take place on February 11 and February 12, after which we will issue a joint statement," Thakre had told reporters recently.
